Long Beach City College is seeking qualified part-time faculty to teach in the discipline of Computer and Office Studies (COSA). The COSA curriculum supports students in developing essential digital fluency, proficiency in productivity software, and foundational technology competencies necessary for academic, professional, and personal success in today's digital society. Courses in this discipline address a broad range of topics, including computer applications, digital communication, information systems, data literacy, emerging technologies, and the social and ethical implications of computing. Faculty in this area may be assigned to teach courses that serve both transfer and career technical education pathways, preparing students for the evolving demands of the workplace and industry certifications. Instruction may be delivered in in-person, hybrid, or online modalities, and teaching assignments may vary by campus location and scheduling needs. The ideal candidate demonstrates a strong commitment to equity-minded pedagogy, inclusive instructional practices, and student-centered learning within a highly diverse community college setting. The teaching assignment may be at the Liberal Arts Campus (LAC), the Technology, and Community Learning Campus (TTC), or other college teaching locations. The assignment may be day, evening, weekend, online or off campus and is subject to change as needed. Part-time faculty positions are as needed positions and do not accrue rights to tenure. Part-time faculty positions offer flexible hours and the opportunity to assist a diverse group of adult students in achieving their educational goals. - Ability to self-reflect and respond to an evidence-based assessment of student learning.
- Demonstrated experience and commitment to integrating new technologies into the learning process, including but not limited to interactive technologies for on campus and on-line courses.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Instructional duties and assignments may consist of one or more of the following:
- Provide instruction for assigned courses in computer applications and concepts, including Microsoft Office. This includes preparation for in-class or online/distance education activities, evaluation of students' work, consultation
- with students outside of class and/or online, maintenance of currency in the subjects taught.
- Maintain accurate class and other records required by the college.
- Submit, when due, attendance rosters and grade reports.
- Follow course outlines as filed in the instruction offices.
- Maintain office hours each week, at .5 hours per week per section.
- Observe, support, and enforce the regulations, policies, and programs of the District and college.
- Provide each student with a written course syllabus at the beginning of the course, as per instructions in the Faculty Handbook.
- Refer students to appropriate college sources for information on counseling and other student services.
- Assist students by providing advice on requirements for achievement in the 'members' area of expertise.
- Work cooperatively within the college community.
- Foster an environment that protects academic freedom within the college community.
- Foster a positive working environment that is free from harassment, prejudice, and bias.
- Recent community college or lower division teaching experience.
- Expertise in the field of course(s) to be taught.
- Proficiency in Online Instruction.
- Demonstrated ability to teach digital productivity tools (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, cloud-based platforms) and apply them in academic and workplace contexts.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to foster an inclusive and engaging learning environment for students with varying levels of computer proficiency.
- Experience incorporating emerging technologies into instructions, such as generative AI tools, data visualization software, and cloud computing applications.
