General Summary The College of Aviation at Western Michigan University invites applications for an academic year, tenure-track faculty position in the technical operations program. The College offers three distinct academic programs, providing faculty members the opportunity to teach within a specialized area of expertise or across multiple disciplines. Applicants will join a supportive and collegial environment that values collaboration among students, faculty, and staff. This position represents an exceptional opportunity to contribute to a dynamic academic community and to bring professional maintenance experience into the classroom and lab to enhance student learning. Major Duties Teach up to 15 credits in the fall and spring for a total of no more than 30 credits of regularly scheduled courses or their equivalent over an academic year. Fulfill curriculum development as part of normal workload. Carry out any administrative tasks assigned as part of normal workload. Fulfill bargaining unit workload requirements with equivalent administrative work. Serve as a resource for the college by participating in service work related to various committees, professional societies, and community organizations. Be available to assist students with course advising, orientation, and individual mentoring. Encourage and support student involvement in student organizations and internships. Maintain the diverse curricula by maintaining appropriate qualifications, proficiencies, and certificates to comply with federal and accreditation requirements. Maintaining relevant relationships with the aviation industry and community. Developing and refining program activities and laboratory equipment. Other duties assigned by the Chair. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a related area from an accredited institution. FAA Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic Certification. Significant related work experience in Aviation Maintenance. Desired Qualifications Earned graduate-level degree or doctorate from an accredited institution. Collegiate teaching experience. Excellent communication skills, including computer skills. FAA flight, dispatcher, AGI, IGI and/or inspection.
