Successful applicants will develop and instruct on one or more of the following topics and course levels/locations: Undergraduate program courses located on the Rutgers University-Newark campus: Introduction to Criminology (hybrid); Introduction to Criminal Justice (hybrid); Homeland Security (writing intensive and hybrid); Reducing Local Crime; Constitutional Issues in Criminal Justice; Criminal Justice Research Methods; Gender, Crime & Justice ; Violent Crime; Race, Crime & Justice (online); Contemporary Policing (writing intensive); White Collar Crime (writing intensive); Crime in Different Cultures (writing intensive and online); Juvenile Gangs; Topics in
Criminal Justice:
Forensics Undergraduate program courses located on the campus of
Community College of Morris:
Criminal Justice Research Methods (online); Gender, Crime & Justice (in-person); Crime in Different Cultures (online and writing intensive) Undergraduate courses (in person) at NJ-STEP affiliated correctional facilities in northern and southern
New Jersey:
Pursuit of Justice Inequality Criminal Justice Research Methods Data Analysis in Criminal Justice Various Criminal Justice and Justice Studies electives or other Topics in Justice Studies courses. Master's program courses located on the Rutgers University-Newark campus: Data Analysis & Management (online) Accounting & Financial Crimes Homeland Security Policy Financial Crime I MA Project Seminar (hybrid) Instructors shall prepare and submit course syllabi, meet and provide pedagogically appropriate instruction during assigned class times, provide timely student feedback, respond to student emails, adhere to grade submission policies and deadlines, and if the option is available, attend new student orientations. In classes that have a research focus, instructors shall follow appropriate information on the Rutgers University Institutional Review Board policies and procedures to ensure the protection of human subjects. NJ-STEP appointments teaching in NJ correctional facilities also require an additional background check through New Jersey Department of Corrections and a brief online training. All Lecture and course appointments for the School of Criminal Justice associated with the Rutgers University- Newark campus and offsite location like County College of Morris report to the Dean of the School of Criminal Justice; course appointments associated with NJ-STEP and taught at the correctional facilities in northern and southern New Jersey report to the Executive Director of the NJ-STEP program.

06/10/2026 Minimum Education and Experience Masters or Juris Doctorate Required. Doctorate Preferred. Demonstrated ability to teach at the university level. Applicants with comparable degrees from accredited institutions may also be considered. Prior teaching experience is also preferred. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities NJ-STEP appointments teaching in NJ correctional facilities also require an additional background check through New Jersey Department of Corrections and a brief online training. Equipment Utilized Computer/Email/Webex/Zoom Overview The School of Criminal Justice at Rutgers University-Newark was founded in 1974 by an act of the New Jersey Legislature-the only school in America with this kind of legal charter. Its purposes have always been to (1) produce scholarship of the highest quality on crime and justice (2) provide state and local justice agencies with crucial evidence and consultation about the policy and practice of criminal justice, and (3) produce graduates who take their places as productive and respected scholars in the field.
