Department Public Service Education Position Type Faculty Employment Status Adjunct Salary Adjunct Stipend Open Date 11/12/2025 Close Date Open Until Filled No Position Summary Information Job Description Summary This position requires experience in the criminal justice field with teaching experience in a college or university setting. Must be able to teach in classroom and have strong understanding of the learning management systems such as Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle, etc. Must be able to teach one (1) or more courses per regular semester and able to work with dual credit and early college. Must have the ability to help develop curriculum and different methodology of teaching in the classroom or online. Minimum Qualifications Master's Degree with the 18 hours of concentration in Criminal Justice courses. Required Job Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Ability to plan course instruction based upon approved syllabus/ outline provided to insure course content and objectives are met. Ability to utilize a variety of teaching styles and methods to accommodate diverse learning styles of students. Successful college teaching experience is required. Successful experience utilizing instructional technologies, including computers, internet resources and other appropriate media in instruction. Preferred Qualifications Experience in law enforcement or similar positions in the criminal justice field such as probation officer, parole officer, peace officer, jailer, CPS worker or similar jobs within the field. Experience teaching college level online and face to face courses and/or documented successful training in a college online learning management system (e.g. Blackboard, Canvas). Ability to teach and communicate with students of varied multicultural backgrounds. Knowledge of and commitment to teaching strategies and methods which enhance student success. Knowledge of a learning college and/or knowledge of learning communities. Special Instructions to Applicants Applicants must reside in the state of Texas and be eligible to work in the United States. Job Duties Job Duty Teach one (1) or more courses per regular semester that could include face to face and online courses and/or dual-credit/early college classes. Job Duty Demonstrate skill, knowledge, and abilities in the teaching discipline. Teach assigned courses in a variety of times and locations in response to institutional need. Make continuous efforts to advance the quality of instruction. Develop and use a variety of teaching methods and materials to assist students who have differing educational and experiential backgrounds in meeting the course outcomes. Maintain appropriate professional relationships with students, colleagues and the community. Job Duty Evaluate students to measure their progress toward achievement of stated course outcomes within the College grade and grade appeals procedures. Review, evaluate, recommend, and effectively use student learning materials. Job Duty Provide students with a written and accessible course syllabus that follows the Course Syllabus Guidelines and facilitates a clear understanding between student and instructor of the content, goals, requirements, expectations, evaluation methods and schedule of work. Maintain a classroom environment that promotes teaching and learning. Assist with marketing programs and recruiting students. Job Duty Review, evaluate, and revise assessments of program and institutional student learning outcomes and program practices to bring about action plans devised to implement systemic improvement in programs and assure compliance with professional standards, state-mandated guidelines, and requirements of business/industry and higher education. Job Duty Participate in the self- evaluation process. Establish goals and objectives which may include personal and professional development plans in consultation with the department chair. Maintain professional standards of competence in the discipline and teaching methodology through professional development/engagement activities. Job Duty Accept special assignments occasionally. Participate in department, divisional, and College meetings if required. Participate in activities required to maintain program and College accreditation standards. Participate in the College planning process by assisting in the formulation of goals and objectives and budget priorities. Meet professional assignments in accordance with the College calendar.
