Public Education Specialist Make a life-saving impact in your community. The Lake Havasu City Fire Department is seeking a dynamic and creative Public Education Specialist to lead our fire and life safety initiatives. This isn't just an office job—it's a chance to be the face of safety, educating everyone from schoolchildren to local officials on how to stay safe and prepared. The Role As our Public Education Specialist, you'll design and deliver high-energy safety programs, manage community outreach, and lead critical risk-reduction strategies. You'll be the primary voice for fire prevention, handling everything from social media messaging to hands-on CPR training and child safety seat inspections.
Key Responsibilities:
Educate & Inspire:
Present fire and life safety programs to schools, community groups, and the public.
Content Creation:
Design visual aids, marketing materials, and lesson plans for awareness campaigns.
Program Management:
Oversee the Youth Fire Setting Intervention Program and the City's AED/CPR certification programs.
Collaborate:
Work with the Deputy Fire Chief and the City's Community Engagement Officer to ensure our message reaches every corner of the community.
Budget & Logistics:
Manage the public education budget and coordinate schedules for major community events.
What You Bring Education:
A Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Education, Public Administration, Fire Science, or a related field.
Experience:
Moderate experience in fire prevention, instruction, or life safety education.
Skills:
You are a confident public speaker, a skilled writer, and tech-savvy with social media and instructional design.
Passion:
A genuine desire to build effective relationships with diverse community groups and government agencies. Required Qualifications Valid Driver's License. Ability to obtain the following within specific timelines: Year 1:
AFSI/FEMA NIMS
training; Fire & Life Safety Educator I; AHA CPR/AED/First Aid Instructor. Year 2: Fire & Life Safety Educator II; Youth Fire Setter Intervention; National Child Passenger Safety Technician.
