THE OPEN ROLE IS A CASELOAD OF PRIMARILY K-1 WITH A FEW 2-3 STUDENTS. YOU WILL HAVE YOUR OWN CLASSROOM FOR PULL OUT SERVICES. EXPERIENCE WITH SELF-CONTAINED AND/OR MODIFIED CURRICULUM PREFERRED. ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides consultation and support for school site teams who have students with disabilities, ranging from mild to severe, in general education classrooms for the majority of their school day. Conducts ongoing training for regular and special education teachers and instructional assistants regarding inclusive education practices, curriculum accommodations, modifications, and behavior interventions for students with disabilities in general education classrooms. Assists general education teachers and special education support staff in adapting curriculum for students with disabilities, and provides accommodations, modified curriculum, and resources as needed by school site teams. Assists general education teachers, special education support staff, and school site teams with developing daily reports, behavioral schedules, and social skills curriculum for students with disabilities in general education classrooms. Models teaching strategies and techniques for regular and special education teachers and instructional assistants for students with disabilities in general education classroom. Provides consultation and support for parents of students with disabilities in general education classrooms and facilitates positive collaboration between parents and school site teams. Confers frequently with OCASA's student services support staff and administrators to provide needed services regarding inclusive education practices. Implements and monitors students' Individual Education Plans. Attends IEP's and staff/parent meetings of students with disabilities in general education classrooms, as requested. Maintains a database of inclusion students for assigned caseload - K through 12th grade. Assists school site teams in problem-solving and program issues related to inclusive education practices. Participates in professional development activities. Participates in SELPA meetings for maintenance of standards and evaluation of special education services. Attends school daily and is punctual. Performs other duties as assigned. Orange County Academy of Sciences and Arts Knowledge of principles, practices, trends, fiscal and legal aspects, affecting all inclusion programs; organization, planning, and program evaluation strategies; techniques and procedures regarding curriculum and instruction design and delivery systems for both special Education and OCASA core curriculum; human relationships, conflict resolution strategies, and practices; and team-building methods and techniques. Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate full inclusion program at all grade/age levels throughout OCASA schools; supervise in the development of strategies for curriculum modifications; develop and present training for teachers and instructional assistants in best practices regarding full inclusion; evaluate and analyze complex problems, issues, and concerns, and recommend appropriate alternative solutions; communicate effectively in oral and written form to a variety of audiences; establish and maintain cooperative organizational, public, and educational community relationships.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Candidates must meet the following qualifications: Bachelor's degree, including all courses needed to meet credential requirements. Current California teaching credential or license authorizing service for individuals with exceptional needs. Interest in OCASAs innovative model of public charter education and commitment to the student's success Commitment to continuous improvement Ability to communicate effectively in a team-oriented environment with outstanding organizational skills
PREFERRED SKILLS
Master's degree in Education Prior experience with project-based learning activities Prior training and experience with Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) Course work in the psychological characteristics of exceptional children and remedial techniques in the basic skills subject area. Two years of successful classroom teaching experience with individuals with exceptional needs Experience in a multicultural school environment. Bilingual in English/Spanish
