Print Iftin Charter School is seeking the next Education Specialist to join our team! We are small TK through 8th grade school in a densely populated mid-city community in San Diego. Our dedicated teachers and staff serve a student population comprised of a large percentage of English learners, immigrants, and refugees. Summary:
Under the direction of the Instructional Leader, the Education Specialist (ES) serves as the case manager for Iftin Charter School students who require special education services as outlined in their IEPs. The ES coordinates identification, referral and assessment procedures, IEP meetings and the implementation of special education services. The ES plans programs, coordinates curricular resources, and evaluates effectiveness of programs for individuals with exceptional needs. The ES participates in staff development and program development, and innovation of special methods and approaches. The role of the Education Specialist is to improve student success rates and outcomes to ensure that all students realize their individual academic goals. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Serves as Case Manager for Special Education students at Iftin Charter School. Coordinates identification, referral and assessment procedures, IEP meetings and the implementation of special education services (including speech, OT etc.) Plans programs and evaluates effectiveness of programs for individuals with exceptional needs. Administers standardized assessments and interprets results to determine students' strengths and areas of need for initial, annual, and triennial evaluations. Develops and/or coordinates effective and inclusive practices for instruction. Confers and collaborates with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and others to develop individual educational programs for students and to improve the quality of student outcomes, develop solutions, and plan curricula. Develops and/or coordinates the alignment and articulation of core curriculum and services between the SELPA, County special education programs, and non-public schools/agencies. Drafts and writes professional and fully compliant IEPs. Plans curriculum and prepares lessons and other instructional materials adapted to each student's ability and interest and the academic goals outlined in the IEP. Instructs students in one-to-one or small group settings, push in or pull out, or using other interventions and strategies as required by the IEP to improve their success in all academic subject areas. Coordinates the development, selection, and procurement of curriculum materials, equipment and training. Strong commitment to doing whatever it takes for all students to reach their academic goals and be prepared for high school. Supports and coaches students through academic or personal difficulties. Works with students to increase motivation, provide consistent reinforcement to learning, and continuous assessment of level of functioning. Gives appropriate, encouraging, compassionate, and persistent feedback to students for all learning activities. Manages student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment; develops behavior support plans as needed and provides ongoing monitoring. Participates in various meetings including IEP, Parent Conferences, Staff Development or Training, etc. Advises parents or guardians of student progress, and provides support in accepting and recognizing students' learning capabilities as needed. Develops and implements training sessions related to behavior programs, methodologies, and procedures; provides behavior management demonstrations to staff; trains and directs special education Instructional Assistants as assigned.
