The purpose of this position is to address the duties and responsibilities that a large special education/504 population creates within a district. The Coordinator supports special education programs and services in compliance with all Federal and State policies and procedures as well as the mission statement and vision of the East Haven School District. The Coordinator will serve as a resource to parents and school personnel to ensure continuous benefits form educational opportunities.Responsibilities and Duties:
Provides professional leadership to selected programs in special education Provides ongoing assessment of the special education needs of students for programming and budgetary purposes Analyzes district needs and coordinates professional development programs in special education and regular education for students with disabilities Coordinates the provision of related services for Out of District and Magnet School Students Assesses, coordinates and makes recommendation for special education transportation for students at APSEP's Provides leadership in determining student eligibility for district programs, APSEP's and/or referral to community and state agencies Maintains up to date knowledge of special education law, policy and procedures Implements strategies for maintaining a high level of communication between all stakeholder-students, parents, school staff and pupil services and community agencies/paraprofessional Upholds and promotes goals and objectives of the Superintendent of Board of Education Demonstrate an on-going interest and participation in professional learning Maintains confidentiality regarding personnel and student information Perform other tasks and responsibilities as delegated by theDirector of Pupil Services and Special Education Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel Physical and Mental Demands/Work Environment The physical demands and environmental characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
