Job Description

Stratford Public Schools is seeking ESOL educators to participate in curriculum writing work for the Multilingual Learners Department. This work will support the continued development and refinement of district ESOL curriculum documents for secondary multilingual learners. The curriculum writing team will help develop clear, standards-aligned, and teacher-friendly curriculum materials that support consistent ESOL instruction across the district. The work will focus on strengthening alignment to the Connecticut English Language Proficiency Standards, supporting multilingual learners' academic language development, and ensuring that curriculum documents reflect best practices for English language development. Responsibilities will include developing and revising curriculum units, pacing guides, learning objectives, language objectives, instructional activities, assessment recommendations, and differentiated supports for multilingual learners. Writers may also assist with aligning curriculum materials to district resources, including HMH English 3D, Newcomer Language Launch, ESOL Reading, and other approved instructional materials. Applicants should have experience teaching multilingual learners, knowledge of English language development, familiarity with the CELP Standards, and an interest in creating practical curriculum resources that support both teachers and students. Experience with secondary ESOL instruction, newcomer programming, sheltered instruction, literacy development, or curriculum design is preferred. This opportunity is open to certified ESOL teachers and other qualified educators with experience supporting multilingual learners. Curriculum writing may take place during the school year and/or summer, depending on teacher availability and district needs. Compensation will be provided at the approved rate for curriculum writing. Interested educators should apply by May 15th. The rate for curriculum writing is $45/hour.
