Open Until Filled Woodbridge School District is accepting applications for a Special Education Specialist. This is a full-time, 10-month, benefit-eligible specialist position.
JOB SUMMARY
The Special Education Specialist works closely with the Director of Student Services to support, monitor, and ensure compliance of all special education programs and services. This role provides leadership, guidance, and technical assistance to school staff to ensure adherence to federal, state, and local regulations, while promoting high-quality, equitable services for students with disabilities. The Specialist plays a key role in program development, implementation, and continuous improvement of special education practices across the district or organization.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Must hold or be eligible for an educator license in the State of Delaware Must hold or be eligible for special education certification Master's degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field preferred Minimum of 3â€"5 years of experience in special education, including instructional or leadership roles Strong knowledge of federal and state special education laws and regulations (e.g., IDEA, Section 504) Experience with IEP development, compliance monitoring, and due process procedures Demonstrated ability to analyze data and use it to inform program decisions Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills Ability to provide professional development and coaching to staff Proficiency with special education data systems and documentation practices
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist in ensuring district compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local special education laws and regulations Monitor IEPs, evaluations, and student records for accuracy, timeliness, and legal compliance Assist in preparing for and responding to audits, monitoring visits, and compliance reviews Support the development and implementation of corrective action plans as needed Work directly with the Director of Student Services to implement district-wide special education initiatives Collaborate with school administrators, teachers, related service providers, and families to support student success Serve as a resource and liaison between schools and the central office on special education matters Provide ongoing professional development and coaching to staff on best practices in special education Support staff in IEP development, behavior intervention planning, and instructional strategies Assist with onboarding and mentoring new special education staff Collect, analyze, and report special education data to inform decision-making and ensure program effectiveness Monitor student progress and program outcomes to support continuous improvement Maintain accurate records and assist with required state and federal reporting Support the provision of appropriate services and accommodations for students with disabilities Assist in resolving parent concerns, mediations, and due process issues as needed Promote inclusive practices and equitable access to educational opportunities Participate in district committees and initiatives related to student services Stay current on changes in laws, regulations, and best practices in special education Perform other duties as assigned Employment is contingent upon successful completion of all required background checks and clearances. WORKING CONDITIONS AND EXPECTATIONS
This is a 10-month position based on a 188-day annual contract. Employees are expected to work 7.5 hours per day, consistent with the established school and district schedules. Responsibilities may include duties beyond instructional time, such as meetings, professional development, and school-related events. Employees are expected to maintain regular attendance, fulfill all assigned responsibilities, and demonstrate flexibility to meet the evolving needs of students, staff, and the district. This position may require additional workdays during the summer months beyond the standard school-year schedule.
