April 2026 Make a Difference in Early Childhood Education South Central Iowa Community Action Program (SCICAP) is seeking a passionate, organized, and experienced Education Specialist to support our Head Start program. This full-time position plays a key leadership role in ensuring high-quality education services across our five-county service area: Clarke, Decatur, Lucas, Monroe, and Wayne. Based out of our Chariton, Iowa office , the Education Specialist will travel regularly to all Head Start center locations, working closely with teachers, teacher assistants, site supervisors, and other team members to support curriculum implementation, classroom quality, and compliance with Head Start Performance Standards.Key Responsibilities:
Provide ongoing coaching, mentoring, and professional development to classroom staff. Monitor curriculum fidelity and classroom practices to ensure alignment with Head Start guidelines and the Creative Curriculum model. Use CLASS (Classroom Assessment Scoring System) observations and other tools to support continuous improvement. Collaborate with leadership and center staff to assess and improve school readiness goals. Assist in coordinating child assessments (TS GOLD) and ensure accurate, timely data entry. Participate in policy and procedure development related to education services. Support the planning and facilitation of pre-service and in-service training events. Travel regularly to all SCICAP Head Start classrooms for observation and support.Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree or higher in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field required . Minimum of two years of experience in early childhood education; Head Start experience strongly preferred. Strong understanding of developmentally appropriate practices, curriculum planning, and assessment. Experience with Teaching Strategies GOLD is highly desirable. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to travel throughout the five-county area (company vehicle provided). Must pass background checks and meet all Head Start requirements.What We Offer:
