We are looking for a dedicated Health Education Specialist (Fit & Fall Proof/Suicide Prevention Programs) to join our Hayden office in a full-time, 40hrs/wk. role! The Health Education Specialist (HES) at Panhandle Health District leads community-based fall prevention for older adults and suicide prevention efforts. This role focuses on helping seniors stay active and reduce fall risk through evidence-based classes and community outreach. The Specialist also coordinates and delivers suicide prevention trainings, including QPR, Youth Mental Health First Aid, and ASIST. Key responsibilities include planning and implementing grant-funded activities, tracking outcomes, and ensuring all program deliverables are met. This position builds and maintains partnerships with community organizations, recruits and trains volunteer class leaders, and supports local events by providing education and resources. The HES works closely with funders and internal teams to manage program budgets, report progress, and ensure compliance with state and federal requirements.
Qualifications and Proficiencies:
Ability to develop knowledge of the core functions and essential services of public health and current public health principles and processes Skill in assisting with the management of federal health improvement contracts and related deliverables Enhanced public speaking and presentation skills Willingness to engage in and promote community outreach efforts Familiarity with relevant OSHA standards Understanding of the structure and function of health care systems; competence in identifying appropriate client referrals based on patient needs, program guidelines, and community resources Insight into population-based health status indicators and determinants of health and illness, as well as factors influencing health promotion and disease prevention Proficiency in adapting to computer programs and technologies that support program effectiveness and efficiency Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a commitment to improvement Understanding of documentation requirements, electronic health records, and State and Federal laws governing the release of health care information and patient consent Valid driver's license (Idaho or Washington) or ability to obtain one if relocating, and ability to travel locally National Incident Management System (NIMS)/Incident Command System (IS)100, 700 within one (1) month of employment
Physical Requirements:
Due to the need for all Health Department personnel to respond to public health emergencies, the employee must be assessed for his/her ability to meet the physical demands of performing the following activities: Engage in the following movements: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, and writing and repetitive motions. To move objects, exert up to 30 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly. Hearing ability sufficient to communicate effectively in person and over the phone. Visual ability must be sufficient to read typewritten documents, computer screens, and drive a car If unable to demonstrate these abilities based upon a standardized, objective assessment performed by external occupational health professionals, all reasonable accommodations will be made in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and any other applicable Federal and Idaho law.
