About the
Role:
The Freedom School Servant Leader plays a pivotal role in fostering an empowering and supportive educational environment for children and youth. This position is dedicated to promoting literacy, cultural enrichment, and social-emotional development through dynamic programming and mentorship. The Servant Leader collaborates closely with a diverse team to implement curriculum and activities that inspire critical thinking, creativity, and community engagement. By serving as a positive role model and advocate, the Servant Leader helps cultivate a safe and inclusive space where every participant feels valued and motivated to reach their full potential. Ultimately, this role contributes to the broader mission of advancing educational equity and nurturing the next generation of leaders.Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework preferred. Experience working with children or youth in educational or community settings. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with students, families, and team members. Ability to commit to the full duration of the program schedule, including any required training sessions. Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and youth empowerment.Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in education, social work, or a related field. Previous experience in literacy instruction or youth mentorship programs. Cultural competency and experience working with diverse populations. First aid and CPR certification. Experience in conflict resolution and classroom management.Responsibilities:
Facilitate daily educational and enrichment activities aligned with the Freedom School curriculum to support literacy and personal growth. Mentor and build meaningful relationships with students, providing guidance, encouragement, and support. Collaborate with fellow staff and community partners to create a cohesive and inclusive learning environment. Monitor and assess student progress, adapting approaches to meet diverse learning needs and styles. Participate in ongoing training and professional development to enhance instructional skills and cultural competency.Skills:
The Servant Leader utilizes strong communication skills daily to connect with students and colleagues, fostering trust and open dialogue. Organizational skills are essential for planning and executing engaging lessons and activities that meet curriculum goals. Problem-solving abilities help address challenges that arise in dynamic group settings, ensuring a positive learning environment. Cultural competency skills enable the Servant Leader to respect and celebrate diversity, tailoring approaches to meet the unique needs of each student.
