INSTRUCTIONAL SERVICES

GENERAL SUMMARY

The educator in this position will assist the Saginaw ISD Instructional Department in supporting the Local Education Agencies (LEA) with professional learning, assessment, and data analysis, as well as improving instructional practices in a Pre-Kindergarten through Twelfth Grade setting. The position aims to increase academic achievement at each LEA within the servicing area.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience as a successful classroom teacher. Sufficient knowledge of evidence-based reading research. Expertise in quality instruction (and infusing strategies into content-area instruction). A minimum of a bachelor's degree and advanced coursework in reading or have completed professional development in research-based literacy instruction strategies. Previous coaching experience preferred. Data management skills. A solid knowledge base in working with adults.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES

Background in creating and evaluating successful programs. Previous experience training or presenting information to educators. Skills related to developing training materials and planning staff development. Educator coaching experience. Successful implementation of various programs, strategies, and models. Ability to break down and analyze data about instructional decision-making. Able to work independently, problem-solve, and find solutions to challenging situations. Participate in or have recently completed state-funded Professional Learning in Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling (LETRS).

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO

The coach must provide professional development in each: a. The five major reading components i. Phonemic Awareness, ii. Phonics, iii. Fluency, iv. Vocabulary, v. Comprehension. b. The Early Literacy Essential Practices c. The analysis of student performance data 2. The coach must provide professional development that enables the administration and analysis of instructional assessments. 3. The coach must provide professional development that includes differentiated instruction and strategies for intensive intervention, supported by ongoing progress monioring and evaluation.

TASKS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO

Model effective instructional strategies for teachers. Facilitate study groups. Train teachers in data analysis and using data to differentiate instruction. Coach and mentor educators. Work with teachers to ensure that evidence-based reading programs are implemented with fidelity. Train teachers to diagnose and address reading deficiency. Assist with increasing instructional leadership capacity within the county. Lead and support leadership teams at the school. Continue to increase their knowledge base in best practices in instruction and intervention. Model and coach whole and small group instruction with students for each teacher in grades
