About the Role At MIGIZI, we operate four key programs: First Person Productions, Green Tech, CLAW, and our Best Buy Teen Tech Center. This position is focused on our CLAW Program (Culture, Leadership, Academics, and Wellbeing), which provides essential academic and cultural support for Native youth in-school, after school, and during the summer. Media specialists are tasked with the creation, planning, coordination, and monitoring implementation of technical and artistic aspects of media and video production including educational and career support activities. Media specialists support the healthy development of American Indian youth and ensure the accomplishment of the goals, objectives, and outcomes as required. Media specialists ensure youth are successful in setting career goals through education, training, mentoring and coaching. This position reports directly to MIGIZI First Person Production Lead Instructor. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Mentor youth engaged in the First Person Productions Program at Migizi Implement and coordinate cohort activities daily Collaborate with program team on a weekly basis Communicate as required with families of youth served Network within institutions and systems to strengthen relationships and opportunities to promote partnerships and resource sharing Assist in the mentorship and training of FPP Junior Staff Collaborate with other program staff to plan and implement activities and ensure the maximum benefits for youth Coordinate strategic training, summer internship and apprenticeship opportunities for FPP youth Support and help develop an annual work plan based on the MIGIZI logic model to meet program goals. Ensure the program aligns with grant outcomes, objectives, and deliverables during the annual planning process Monitor, track, and modify youth individualized learning plans . Identify and recruit Media professionals to engage with FPP interns Tailor training to meet the developmental needs of participants Assist in the selection and supervision of FPP interns Maintain timely and accurate program records in organizational databases (eg Salesforce) Assist in and contribute to the preparation of project/program reports including data tracking and story gathering Represent Migizi and FPP while engaged in community outreach, public facing events, or out of org trainings in a good way Embrace and center Indigenous ways of knowing and practices Help to build and maintain a culturally safe space for Native American youth Additional duties as assigned by supervisor Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities A minimum of 4 years of experience in planning, coordination, and successful implementation of educational and internship support activities with youth An Associates degree can be substituted for 1 year of experience while a Bachelor's degree can be substituted for 2 years of experience Experience in, and knowledge of, Media career pathways A Good driving record and the ability to transport youth with an organizational vehicle Employment offer contingent upon passing a criminal background check Proficiency utilizing and navigating shared Google Workspace interfaces Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information Contribute to a cooperative, collaborative, and flexible work team environment A history of modeling positive behaviors to youth Proven ability to actively engage youth and their families/guardians in the creation and pursuit of education and career goals Knowledge of American Indian values and cultural practices Knowledge of and familiarity with Minneapolis/St. Paul Indian communities Background and ability to work with youth in a variety of settings and on a variety of projects Work Environment Media Education Specialists work in MIGIZI offices, schools, or in a field environment with youth programming. They spend time traveling and implementing programming. A great deal of time may be spent standing and walking.
