POSITION PURPOSE/SUMMARY
The purpose of the Elementary Instructional Coach is to assist teachers in developing, testing, and implementing research based instructional strategies that will increase student achievement. The Coach will use, analyze, and reflect on formative assessment data to improve teaching and learning.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
The Elementary Instructional Coach shall have a Master's Degree in Education, a minimum of 5 years of successful classroom teaching, extensive training and successful experience in classroom instruction, evaluating data to drive instruction and interventions, and extensive knowledge of elementary standards, curriculum and content. The Elementary Instructional should be highly motivated, well organized, and have collaborative leadership skills.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Assume the responsibility of the content leader within the building Provide job-embedded professional development for teachers through presentation, modeling, collaboration and feedback Demonstrates effective leadership skills, communication skills, organization skills, problem-solving and decision-making skills Teach, model and facilitate research-based best practices within the school's instructional program: Work with teachers to develop effective teaching strategies and tools to aid the instructional process; Work with teachers to develop effective classroom assessment strategies; Work with teachers on using assessment data to drive student/classroom instruction Work with curriculum coordinators and building leadership to design and provide professional development focused on improving alignment and delivery of the written, taught, and tested curriculum to increase student success and close performance gaps: Working closely with elementary curriculum coordinators to ensure all curriculum and related instructional practices are implemented with fidelity; Work closely with building leadership to identify achievement goals and develop a building plan to address performance/achievement gaps Provide coaching sessions and study groups; Provide demonstration lessons with pre-and post-discussions/analysis Work with administrators, teachers and teacher teams to plan curriculum implementation and ensure that grade levels are on pace with district approved curriculum and assessments. Demonstrates positive professional relationship with district personnel, parents and community
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
Effectively communicate, verbally and in written form, with administrators, staff, and the community as needed. All other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction or designee.
MENTAL DEMANDS
Ability to maintain highly confidential information; communicate clearly both orally and in writing, and/or ability to reason and make appropriate decisions. Solve a variety of problems in many different situations and have strong attention to detail. The Elementary Instructional Coach must also have the ability to define problems, collect data, verify facts, make valid conclusions, and deal with abstract concepts.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this position an employee is regularly required to sit, talk, hear, and present. Close vision ability to look at a computer screen for long periods is required. Travel throughout and outside of the district will be required. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
The Elementary Instructional Coach will be appointed for a period not to exceed one year and will be directly responsible to the Superintendent or his/her designee. The Elementary Instructional Coach will be a certified teacher. Calendar will be consistent with the Teacher Work Calendar. Additional days will be added as deemed necessary to perform his/her job responsibilities
EVALUATION
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy of professional staff personnel.
