QUALIFICATIONS
Master's Degree from an approved education program preferred. North Carolina Licensure in Reading. Minimum of five years of Reading/K-5 teaching experience. Knowledge and understanding of the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and related curriculum programs. Knowledge and/or experience in curriculum development, instructional strategies, and assessment. Ability to coordinate the design.development, implementation, assessment, and revision of the English Language Arts curriculum and conduct professional development related to curriculum, instruction, and assessment programs. Effective interpersonal skills. Exemplary leadership skills. Commitment to continuous quality improvement.
REPORTS TO
Assistant Superintendent, K-12 Curriculum and Instruction
JOB GOAL
Provide a wide range of consultant services related to English Language Arts/Reading as a team member of the Curriculum and Instruction Team; assist and support the review and implementation of district/school improvement plans; assist in identifying, developing, and implementing appropriate use of instructional resources; provide consulting and classroom coaching; serve as a resource to teachers/administrators in identifying and using appropriate English Language Arts curriculum materials; facilitate district/school consensus and collaboration; monitor district, school, and student progress; serve as a subject matter liaison, and perform related duties as assigned. The continuation of this position is contingent upon an annual review of the program and continuation of funding.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Duties:
Assist instructional coaches, teachers, and administrators with assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating programs and materials related to English Language Arts curriculum, instruction, and assessment for grades K-5. Assist teachers in using instructional coaches for supporting research-based instructional practices consistent with English Language Arts Content Standards, English Language Arts Framework, and district English Language Arts/Reading plans. Assist in the implementation of the English Language Arts goals and priorities of the district as stated in the improvement plan. Assist instructional coaches, teachers, and administrators in collecting, analyzing, and reporting student performance data for decision-making and monitoring purposes. Assist instructional coaches, teachers, and administrators with the implementation of site-based intervention strategies and programs for students. Conduct demonstration lessons, co-teach, and provide positive, constructive feedback. Facilitate grade-level, school, and district collaboration that may include conflict, divergent philosophies, and mixed agendas, pertaining to Reading/English Language Arts. Collaborate with other local, regional, and state subject content groups to facilitate planning and delivery of service. Work and communicate with other county office specialists and directors as to the progress of districts and share information pertaining to the Reading/English Language Arts elements of the program improvement Plan or assist with site-based small-group, department, or large-group professional Facilitate district, school, and grade-level English Language Arts Provide support and assistance to teachers, curriculum specialists, and administrators with the effective implementation and monitoring of the district's adopted English Language Arts Identify appropriate instructional strategies and interventions to improve student achievement and articulate the rationale for their usage for teachers and Observe classroom lessons and provide feedback to instructional teachers, and administrators that result in positive change. Debrief with administrators, English Language Arts specialists, instructional coaches, and teachers about possible strategies, practices, processes, or actions that could be taken to improve instructional implementation of school improvement priori Analyze data and situation(s), render judgment, make decisions, and solve problems efficiently and Continuously grows in a given curriculum area by staying knowledgeable in current research and participating in relevant Performs additional tasks and assumes additional responsibilities as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of grasping, sitting, light lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, hearing, and repetitive Auditory acuity to a level to hear telephone conversations, customer questions and concerns, and supervisor-vocalized instruction Visual acuity to read and analyze computer screens, documents, and Must be able to express and exchange ideas by means of spoken and written word to individuals as well as large groups of people
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
