Job Description

Coordinator of Music Education/Graduate Music Studies Five Towns College announces an immediate search to fill the position of Coordinator of Music Education/Graduate Music Studies. Five Towns College is a specialized institution of higher education that offers degree programs from the associate level though to the doctoral level in music, media, and the performing arts. Through its three academic divisions (Business, Communications, and Performing Arts), and nine academic departments (Theatre Arts, Music and Music Education, Audio Recording Technology, Film and Television, Mass Communication, Interactive Media Arts, Business, Court Reporting, and General Education/Liberal Arts), the College serves approximately 650 undergraduate and 50 graduate students. While students come to the College from all across the NYC/Long Island Metropolitan Region, the tri-state area, several states, and various foreign countries, they are all attracted by the unique cluster of arts-oriented programs that allows them to focus, thrive and create a future based on their individual passions for the arts. The College holds an Absolute Charter granted by the New York State Board of Regents, and all of its programs are registered with the New York State Education Department and approved by the U.S. Department of Education. The College is institutionally accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. Its programs in Music and Music Education have also earned specialized accreditation from the National Association of Schools of Music, while its programs in Theatre Arts have earned specialized accreditation from the National Association of Schools of Theatre. The College's Court Reporting programs have also earned approval from the National Court Reporter's Association. The Coordinator of Music Education/Gradate Music Studies is the chief academic administrator for the College's programs offered through the Music Department leading to the Mus.

B., M.M., M.A.T, M.P.S. and D.M.A. degrees. These include Music, Music Education (K-12), and Performance. This position will also oversee the undergraduate Music Education program, coordinating Music Education student teachers and field observations, engaging in recruitment efforts, and serving as a liaison to SCMEA, NMEA, NYSSMA, and NYSCAME organizations. The Coordinator chairs the Graduate Academic Studies Committee, reviews applications for admission, fellowships, and faculty appointments. The Coordinator also serves as the primary student advisor for undergraduate Music Education and graduate programs, and assures that all requirements for graduation, including theses and dissertations meet the rigorous standards established by the faculty. The next Coordinator of Music Education/Graduate Music Studies will possess an earned doctorate in Music Education with K-12 certification in New York State. The successful candidate will have a record of successful secondary and college-level teaching experiences, with three or more years K-12 teaching experience. Preferred experiences include experience as a student teaching supervisor or district arts supervisor and using of Danielson Framework (or similar tool). Knowledge of the NY public school districts and the NY certification process is also desired. Collegial experience in departmental activities and governance is also a plus. The Coordinator will represent the College at all NASM events, will be intimately familiar with both NASM standards and the Regulations of the New York State Commissioner of Education related to the licensure and certification of music educators (K-12) for the classrooms of New York's public schools. Candidates should carry a New York State Teaching Certification and would serve as Five Towns College's representative and the program's liaison with NY school districts, district arts supervisors, district administrators, and the state of New York. This position is an on-campus, on-ground, in-person position, although approximately 10 hours per week may be delivered remotely. This search will begin immediately with a full-time appointment expected for the Fall 2026 semester. Applications and expressions of interest will be considered until the post is filled.
