This role includes compliance oversight, IEP review, staff support, scheduling coordination, and collaboration with families and service providers to ensure students receive appropriate services in accordance with IDEA, Chapter 14, Section 504, and Pennsylvania regulations. Responsibilities Compliance & Department Coordination Coordinate daily operations of the Special Education Department. Ensure compliance with IDEA, Chapter 14, Section 504, FERPA, and Pennsylvania special education regulations. Monitor timelines and completion of evaluations, reevaluations, IEPs, NOREPs, progress reports, and related documentation. Review special education files and records to ensure compliance and accuracy. Maintain the special education compliance calendar and ensure deadlines are met. Assist with PDE audits, cyclical monitoring, and compliance reviews. Communicate with outside agencies and PDE regarding compliance matters as needed. Maintain confidentiality of student records and sensitive information. IEP Oversight & Staff Support Provide leadership and support to special education teachers and support staff. Review IEPs, evaluation reports, reevaluations, NOREPs, and related documents prepared by case managers to ensure compliance and quality. Support teachers with IEP development, goal writing, accommodations, progress monitoring, and compliance procedures. Assist with coordinating student schedules, groupings, and special education services. Provide training and ongoing support to special education teachers, paraprofessionals, PCAs, and general education staff regarding IEP implementation, accommodations, behavior supports, and compliance procedures. Support onboarding and mentoring of new special education staff and support personnel. Student Support & Case Management Maintain a limited caseload of students with IEPs. Facilitate IEP meetings, reevaluation meetings, manifestation determination meetings, and parent conferences as needed. Work closely with the school psychologist and multidisciplinary team to coordinate evaluations and reevaluations. Collaborate with teachers and related service providers to support student academic and behavioral needs. Assist in developing behavior intervention strategies and classroom supports. Participate in
MTSS/RTII
discussions and intervention planning. Monitor student progress toward IEP goals and support progress reporting procedures. Family & Related Services Coordination Build positive and professional relationships with families. Maintain communication regarding student progress, services, and concerns. Assist families in understanding special education processes and procedures. Coordinate related services including speech, occupational therapy, physical therapy, counseling, and approved private school placements as needed. Additional Duties Participate in professional development, leadership meetings, and compliance trainings. Assist with special education complaints, mediation, due process matters, or legal proceedings as directed by administration. Assist with student supervision and school operations as needed. Perform other reasonable duties assigned by administration. Qualifications Valid Pennsylvania Special Education Certification required. Pennsylvania Special Education Supervisor certification preferred but not required. Minimum of 3 years of special education teaching experience preferred. Strong knowledge of IDEA, Chapter 14, IEP development, and compliance procedures. Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills. Ability to work collaboratively in a small-school environment. Preferred Qualifications Experience in charter schools or urban education settings. Experience supervising or coordinating special education services. Familiarity with Pennsylvania special education systems and reporting requirements.
