Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for an Instructional Designer on behalf of a respected higher education institution. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced instructional design professional to support the development and continuous improvement of online and hybrid learning experiences in a fully remote environment.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Instructional Designer will collaborate with faculty, academic leadership, and technical teams to design, develop, and enhance online and hybrid courses. This position supports course quality, accessibility, accreditation standards, and instructional best practices while helping faculty leverage educational technology and emerging AI tools to improve student learning outcomes.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Design and develop online, hybrid, and HyFlex courses using instructional design best practices
Partner with faculty and subject matter experts to align learning outcomes, assessments, activities, and instructional content
Build, maintain, and improve courses within Moodle and D2L learning management systems
Apply accessibility standards and online course quality frameworks across all projects
Support faculty with course redesign initiatives, educational technology adoption, and AI-enabled teaching practices
Develop instructional materials, templates, guides, and faculty resources
Conduct course quality assurance reviews, LMS troubleshooting, and course migrations
Manage multiple course development projects and deadlines in a remote environment
Promote engaging, student-centered learning experiences that support academic success and critical thinking.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Education, Educational Technology, or related field
3+ years of instructional design experience within higher education
Experience designing online, hybrid, and/or HyFlex courses
Strong Moodle and D2L experience
Experience incorporating generative AI tools into instructional design workflows Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or related field
Prior higher education teaching experience
Familiarity with OLC Quality Scorecard or similar course quality frameworks
WORK ENVIRONMENT & SCHEDULE
Fully remote
Full-time exempt contract position
Monday-Friday, approximately 37.5 hours per week
Standard schedule of 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM, with occasional flexibility required during peak periods.
COMPENSATION
This position pays between $40-$42/hour plus a comprehensive benefits package.
