Position Summary:
The Early Childhood (ECE) Counselor and Social-Emotional Learning Specialist will work directly with students who could benefit from targeted, individual social-emotional support and intervention. This position will also work to align SEL curriculum across our Primary Years Program (PYP).
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Fluid & Responsive Student Support (Pull-Out & Targeted Intervention) Deliver individual, fluid, and responsive social-emotional support and intervention to students experiencing behavioral or self-regulation challenges. Provide strategic pull-out support through one-to-one or small-group interventions, when necessary, to teach specific self-regulation and social skills. Observe students across various early childhood settings to determine evolving functional and sensory support needs. Actively support students to successfully transition the skills learned during pull-out sessions back into the active classroom setting. 2. Curriculum Design & Systemic Teacher Collaboration Partner with instructional staff to design a comprehensive SEL curriculum that is dynamically embedded into the Primary Years Program (PYP) units of inquiry. Support teachers in implementing evidence-based SEL strategies grounded in the Pyramid Model. Co-create, model, and coach classroom management procedures, sensory breaks, and systemic goals alongside teachers, families, and the building support team. 3. Division-Wide & Community Integration Maintain, support, and align with division-wide behavior management system, including documentation and data collection Conduct proactive observations and follow-up communication for incoming students during the admission process to establish early systemic support. Qualifications Master's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Special Education, School Counseling, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university. Special Service Provider License from the Colorado Department of Education or similar licensing. Minimum of three (3) years of successful classroom teaching or School Counseling experience Proven experience writing, implementing, and monitoring individual social-emotional and behavioral plans. Demonstrated success utilizing a variety of age-appropriate behavior management, functional behavior, and sensory support techniques with ECE-aged students. Strong foundations in basic counseling techniques, interpersonal communication, and responsive classroom management strategies. Exceptional coaching and modeling skills to support adult learning and teacher development. Familiarity with curriculum integration, inquiry-based frameworks (like PYP), and multi-tiered systems of support. Deep familiarity with the Pyramid Model, Zones of Regulation, and Kelso's Choice is preferred English proficiency with excellent verbal and written communication skills Level B2 required, C1+ preferred (based on Common European Framework of References for Languages) or equivalent certification such as TOEFL or IETLS. Visual & Environmental Demands:
Required to use digital displays (e.g., computers, projectors, tablets, monitors) for ~6-8 hours per work day to perform [tasks like planning, grading, or communication]. Ability to work in environments with standard overhead lighting, including fluorescent or LED fixtures. Ability to function effectively in environments with moderate to high noise levels (e.g., classrooms, musical performances, lunchroom(s), crowded hallways).
Cognitive & Executive Demands:
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and pivot between tasks as needed. Ability to process and follow complex, multi-step instructions provided in both verbal and written formats. Capacity to maintain professional boundaries and engage in regular 1:1 or group interactions with students, staff, and the public.
Location and Schedule:
Expected work hours are approximately 8-4:30, M-F. This job has limited remote work flexibility. All employees must be based in the Denver metro area. Benefits (please see ISDenver benefits summary information here):
