PRIMARY PURPOSE
The Data Specialist supports the Assessment and Accountability Department by managing, analyzing,
and reporting student performance data aligned to Texas state accountability systems. This role ensures
data accuracy for instructional decision-making, supports STAAR and TELPAS processes, and provides
actionable insights to improve performance across all domains the state's accountability system.
QUALIFICATIONS
EducationCertification
High School diploma or GED
Special KnowledgeSkills
Strong understanding Texas assessment programs (STAAR, TELPAS)
Knowledge the Texas A-F Accountability system
Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, formulas, data validation)
Experience with data visualization tools
Ability to analyze and interpret large datasets and communicate findings clearly
Strong attention to detail and ability to meet strict district and state deadlines
Knowledge student information systems (e.g., Teams, Frontline, Eduphoria, etc.)
Minimum Experience
Knowledge programs such as Excel, Google Sheets, Microsoft Office, required
Two or three years experience in data analysis preferred
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Assessment Data Management
- Manage and verify student-level data for
STAAR, STAAR
Alternate , TELPAS, and TELPAS
Alternate.
- Coordinate pre
- and post-assessment data processes, including student uploads, test
assignments, and data validation.
- Work closely with campus testing coordinators to ensure accurate coding (e.
g.,
accommodations, special program indicators).

Accountability Analysis & Reporting
- Assist in the analyzation student performance data aligned to Texas accountability domains.
- Assist in the development projections, simulations, and "what-if" scenarios for campus and
district accountability ratings.
- Assist in the monitoring and communication performance student groups (e.g., EB, SPED,
Economically Disadvantaged) for accountability targets.
Data Reporting & Visualization
- Assist in the creation and maintaining district and campus dashboards for STAAR, TELPAS, and
accountability indicators.
- Produce reports for leadership, board meetings, and campus planning (e.g., CIP development)
- Assist in the creation data for campuses after benchmarks, screeners, and other local and
state assessments, etc.
- Translate complex accountability metrics into clear, user-friendly visuals and summaries.
Accountability Compliance & Submissions
- Assist in the review and validation accountability data released by the Texas Education
Agency (TEA).
- Support processes related to accountability appeals, ratings release, and data verification
windows.
- Ensure compliance with all state and federal data reporting requirements, including FERPA.
- Oversee the monthly campus updating their HB Tracking sheet and ensuring compliance
in TEAMS reporting the completion hours at the end the school year.
Campus Support & Training
- Assist in providing training and support to campus staff on interpreting STAAR and TELPAS
results.
- Assist campuses with data-driven decision-making and instructional planning.
- Respond to data requests and troubleshooting needs in a timely manner.
- Assist campuses with the submission their credit by exam spreadsheets.
- Monitor and support campuses with accurate monthly entry and validation HB data
including the end-of-year Teams upload.
Other Duties as Assigned
- Building key inventory.
- Answering phone calls.
- CBE support with ordering and tracking.
- Assisting with items related to the budget (purchase orders, travel, etc.
)
