Job Description
Department:
Student Wellness This position is a pay grade 9. Please see Pay Grade Table at: https://pa-hrsuite-production.s3.amazonaws.com/116/docs/550174.pdf.Primary Responsibilities:
Serves as advisor to the Peer Health Ambassador(PHA) program through the Student Wellness department. Provides training to all PHAs at the beginning of each Fall and Springsemester. Educates PHAs on relevant health topics for college students, including but not limited to, substance use, sexual health,healthy relationships, mental health and stress management, and general wellness. Creates training and activities for weeklymeetings with PHAs to aid in team building and ongoing peer educator professional development. Maintains and updates peer educationcourse curriculum in Blackboard. Oversees the design, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs created byPHAs. Builds and maintains PHA schedules including office hours, scheduled presentations, workshops, events, and other assignments. Provides direct support and oversight of PHA events (may include nights and weekends). Manages PHA recruitment and selectsthe upcoming academic year cohort each Spring semester in collaboration with the Director. Evaluates PHAs each semester foreffectiveness in their roles as peer educators to foster personal and professional growth. Participates in professional developmentspecific to training and developing student leaders and peer educators for effective health education programming. Developsrelationships with campus partners to support growth of the PHA program. Prepares required reports to support data collection withinthe department. Supports various Student Wellness departmental events, including but not limited to, engagement with New StudentOrientation, Bearkat Kickoff, Welcome Week, annual health fairs, flu shot clinics, etc. Presents on various health and wellnesstopics including alcohol and other drugs, mental health and stress management, sexual health and healthy relationships, and overallwell-being related topics to the SHSU student community. Performs other related duties as assigned.OtherSpecifications:
Requires detailed knowledge of university infrastructure, policies and procedures. Requires thorough knowledge of officesystems. Must have the ability to solve operational problems and make suggestions for process improvement. Ability to work evening andweekend shifts may be required.Educational & Experience Requirement:
Bachelor's degree in Public Health, HealthPromotion/Education, Education, or related field. Master's preferred. Two years of experience in advising peer groups, health-relatedpractice, health programming or related field. Current working knowledge of health trends, issues, and topics that directly affect thecollege aged population. Experience in developing and delivering educational programming on a variety of health-related issues. Demonstratedknowledge of health promotion, behavior change and public health theory and models. Excellent interpersonal skills and proficient publicspeaker. Experience in supervising and evaluating others work.NASPA CPE
Trainer certification or ability to obtain within 6 months ofemployment. Additional education can be considered in lieu of experience.Nature & Purpose of Position:
Provide oversight ofthe Peer Health Ambassador program focusing on peer-to-peer education and evidence-based practices to build a culture of health and wellnessthat foster student well-being. Work collaboratively with Student Wellness staff and campus partners to provide educational programming oncampus.Supervision Given & Received:
