Job Goal:
The Special Education Intervention Specialist will coordinate professional development and provide technical assistance to ESC Region 6 Local Education Agencies and ESC colleagues in the area of interventions supports and instructional strategies for neurodivergent learners, age 3 through 21.
Education:
Master's degree in education or a related field
Certification:
Texas Special Education Certification Elementary Grades EC-6 Certification or Core subjects 4-8 (all content areas) - Preferred
Special Knowledge and Skills:
Support educators in implementing evidence-based practices for neurodivergent learners and students requiring targeted interventions Provide intervention support to teachers across a variety of settings, including general education and special education classrooms Experience in developing and delivering high-quality professional development for a variety of audiences, including teachers, administrators, and support staff Collaborate with campus and district leadership to strengthen instructional practices and student outcomes Model effective instructional strategies and intervention practices in real classroom settings Provide ongoing feedback, coaching cycles, and follow-up support according to TEA's grant requirements Collaborate within the ESC to strengthen instructional practices and student outcome
Qualifications:
Recent classroom experience working with students with a variety of learning needs, including neurodivergent learners Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills Experience creating and presenting professional development to adult learners Experience supporting teachers in a variety of instructional settings Knowledge of a variety of student intervention strategies and evidence-based instructional practices Understanding of special education programs, compliance, and service delivery models
Preferred Skills:
Understanding of how evidence-based practices for neurodivergent students impact and improve student outcomes Strong organizational skills Ability to effectively work with a variety of audiences and individuals in different roles
Major Responsibilities:
The Special Education Intervention Specialist serves as an interventionist leader, providing comprehensive support to districts, campuses, and educators in meeting the needs of neurodivergent learners. This role combines classroom expertise, program oversight, and leadership skills to improve outcomes for students receiving both general education and special education services. Working Conditions:
Work on multiple tasks with frequent interruptions Prolong sitting; occasional lifting, bending/stopping, pushing/pulling, and twisting Repetitive hand motions, including frequent keyboarding and use of a mouse; occasional reaching Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds) Frequent region-wide and occasional statewide travel May work prolonger or irregular hours Work with frequent interruptions Maintain emotional control under stress
