Curriculum Department Primary Purpose The PK-2 Coordinator provides instructional leadership and support for Pre-K through 2nd grade programs to ensure high-quality teaching and learning. This role focuses on early literacy, numeracy, developmentally appropriate practices, and alignment of curriculum, instruction, and assessment to improve student outcomes. Key Responsibilities Instructional Leadership Lead the implementation of a rigorous, standards-aligned curriculum for grades PK-2. Develop and refine instructional frameworks, pacing guidance, and aligned resources to strengthen curriculum implementation across campuses. Support high-quality instruction in reading, math, science, and social studies. Develop and write district common assessments aligned to
TEKS, STAAR
expectations, and adopted curriculum to monitor student progress and inform instruction. Ensure alignment between curriculum, instruction, and assessment. Curriculum & Assessment Ensure alignment of PK-2 curriculum with district and state standards Support implementation of early childhood frameworks (e.g., phonics, phonemic awareness, number sense) Provide guidance and support to instructional coaches and campus leaders through classroom visits, planning sessions, and collaborative discussions. Assist in analyzing student data (screeners, benchmarks, progress monitoring) Guide teachers in using data to inform instruction and intervention Write and implement Lesson Frameworks for all content areas CLI Circle and TX-KEA Rostering and Training for teachers. Coaching & Professional Development Provide job-embedded coaching, including classroom observations and feedback Implement Preparedness Documents in PLCs across campuses Plan and deliver targeted professional development Program Coordination Oversee PK-2 instructional programs and initiatives Support transitions (Pre-K → Kindergarten, 2nd → 3rd grade readiness) Monitor classroom environments for early childhood best practices Ensure compliance with district, state, and federal requirements Qualifications Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in Education or related field Valid Texas teaching certificate (or applicable state certification) Minimum 3-5 years successful PK-2 teaching experience Instructional coaching or leadership experience preferred Knowledge & Skills Deep understanding of early literacy development (science of reading) Knowledge of early numeracy development Familiarity with child development and developmentally appropriate practices Strong data analysis and instructional planning skills Effective coaching, communication, and collaboration skills Working Conditions Frequent classroom observations and campus mobility Occasional extended hours for training or events
