Full Job Description Summary of Position:
The Historic George Ranch Association is a 500 acre Living History Ranch with a primary mission of educating area students on Texas history from 1830 to 1930. The Ranch hosts over 50,000 visitors and 25,000 school children each year in addition to special events, corporate events, and group tours. When school is in session, the HGRA has a special emphasis on school field trips Tuesday through Friday and welcomes public visitors on Saturdays. This position provides leadership and management of academic field trips, tours and general site care and preservation. This position is responsible for providing credible authentic interpretive programs including but not limited to educational programming, family programming, and related special events. This position provides daily supervision of part-time employees and volunteers who are scheduled for school class assistance and additional help when needed.
Principal Responsibilities:
1) Management a) Implements approved strategic plans for the 1860s Ryon home site. The Ryon home site currently includes the house, chicken coup, pig pens and assorted outbuildings and gardens. b) Ensures day to day site management in accordance with Ranch personnel and safety guidelines. c) Monitors the status of the historic home and tracks any issues with missing, broken, or damaged artifacts, home elements (hardware, woodwork, wallpaper, glass, floor coverings, AC units, etc.) and pest infestation. Addresses concerns with the Executive Director and Director of Education and Operations. d) Facilitates cleaning and minor repairs of the 1860s Ryon Home and assorted structures. 2) Leadership a) Supervises and evaluates 1-2 subordinate hourly staff or volunteers to successfully accomplish goals and objectives. b) Coordinates with other staff and Director of Education and Operations to achieve daily operational goals and special event activities. 3)
Education:
a) Provides innovative and creative leadership for development and expansion of educational/interpretive programs to keep pace with market trends and educational standards. b) Develops and implements a variety of educational and interpretative programs including regular daily family programming, school classes and special event programming. 4) Other a) Cleaning, care and feeding of onsite farm animals including but not limited to horses, cattle, sheep, chickens and pigs. b) Planting, weeding and watering of minor plants and landscaping. c) Representing HGRA as needed with organizations and individuals requesting historical knowledge or expertise. d) Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in education, museum studies, history or related field. 3-5 years of relevant experience in education, museum education, or interpretation.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; effective critical thinking skills. Skill in providing excellent customer service excellence both internally and externally. Ability to work in a setting requiring self-motivation and cooperative decision making. Ability to work effectively with diverse people and groups. Skill in operating a personal computer with word processing, database and spreadsheet software. Ability to work in an outdoor environment, inlcuding navigating uneven ground, and unpaved surfaces, working in an un-airconditioned space and being outside for long periods of time. Ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to work in a historic building with uneven surfaces, points of entry and stairs.

$40,000.00 - $45,000.00 per year
