Principal Requirements:
Must be highly qualified, a Master's Degree and/or Level III license is preferred, and have previous teacher leadership experience. All Instructional Coaches must demonstrate understanding of the New Mexico Common Core State Standards and possess a deep knowledge of effective instruction and assessment practices.
Job Description:
The Instructional Coach is a teacher who has both content and instructional expertise in reading, writing, and/or math. The Instructional Coach will focus on individual and group professional development that will expand and refine the understanding of effective teaching as outlined by the Farmington Model of Instruction and other research based strategies. The Instructional Coach will provide personalized support that is based on the goals and identified needs of individual teachers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Support the core values and strategic priorities of Farmington Municipal Schools. Assist teachers in a collaborative model of observation, conversation, and lesson demonstration to analyze and reflect on their practice to promote quality instructional practices based upon the Farmington Model of Instruction. Support the understanding and implementation of the New Mexico Common Core State Standards. Support the implementation of site and district curricular and instructional initiatives including, but not limited to pacing guides, measurement topics, standards-based system, and intervention programs. Communicate effectively and create positive relationships with teachers and administrators. Participate fully in professional development for coaches, including peer observations, professional research and reading, conferences and professional learning communities. Conduct research and provide resources on a range of effective and innovative practices. Assist teachers with the collection and analysis of data results. Support the instructional needs of teachers and PLC teams through the implementation of Professional Development Plans around student achievement goals. Work collaboratively and collegially with other Instructional Facilitators, Instructional Coaches, curriculum specialists and district personnel. Participate in the development and delivery of New Teacher Trainings and provide follow-up support for New Teachers. Collaborate with principals in the development of Instructional Support Plans and structure related coaching opportunities as directed by Central Office Administration. Perform other duties and responsibilities related to instruction in all content areas as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications:
A BA degree, valid New Mexico teaching license with endorsements as needed. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Physical Requirements:
Sitting, standing, lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, kneeling, prolonged typing, physical ability to type on a keyboard terminal, and moving light furniture may be required.
Equipment/Technology Handled:
Must know how to properly operate or be willing to learn to operate all multimedia equipment including current technology.
Work Environment:
Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality. Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignment without direct supervision. After hour work may be required.
Terms of Employment:
Salary and work calendar established yearly by the district.
