General Description:
Provides leadership, vision, and coordination for the K-5 curriculum for the mathematics program through planning professional development opportunities, coordinating school and community events, facilitating curriculum development by monitoring and guiding program direction and supporting teachers, administrators, as well as parents. Contacts are regularly and frequently made at all organizational levels within and outside the department to explain and implement programs and policies; professional judgment is required.

Essential Job Functions :
Coordinates and develops curriculum for specified instructional area; coordinates the proposed curriculum through the approval process; provides assistance and direction and monitors curriculum program implementation throughout the county; manages and monitors on-line curriculum resources; develops guidelines for program and materials implementation; aligns curricular materials, technology and assessments with departmental goals and objectives; analyzes standards and designs instruction and assessments aligned with standards. Coordinates and develops assessment resources for specified instructional areas including periodic division common assessments K-12. Reviews and identifies instructional materials; manages adoption of new textbook materials and digital content in accordance with county guidelines and procedures. Provides professional development for administrators, school-based instructional leaders, teachers and staff. Visits classrooms for teaching support and consultation; monitors instructional programs in the schools; collaborates with current math vendors to provide CCPS staff with updates and professional learning; conducts routine evaluations of the effectiveness of specified instructional area instruction programs; maintains CCPS curriculum portal to provide resources to teachers. Serves as liaison for CCPS with the County Government and State department of Education and other professional educational organizations on matters related to specified instructional areas. Coordinates planning for and expenditures from special funding sources for mathematics (such as Algebra Readiness Initiative funding). Develops and monitors program expenditures. Assists with planning for summer school courses and summer remediation courses and the purchasing of supplies for all summer school programs. Assists in the selection process for teachers; provides orientation on instructional goals for newly appointed teachers. Participates in all staff development opportunities. Demonstrates commitment to improving professional competence.
Uses data to:
make instructional decisions related to curriculum and instruction; monitors and assesses student, teacher, school and system performance. Disaggregates data to provide ongoing assessment of student achievement. Coordinates and implements specified school improvements strategies. Assesses student learning on an ongoing basis and alters instruction and/or curriculum to meet group/individual needs. Performs other duties as assigned.
Budgetary Responsibility :
Plans, coordinates and monitors expenditures for specified instructional area.
Report Preparation :
Limited to specific projects on an occasional basis (including some grant oversight).
Equipment Operation :
Proficient in the use of computer and general office equipment
Contacts :
Frequent contact with the Director of Elementary Curriculum Development and Support. Routine contact with teachers and building administrators.
Work Direction/Supervision :
Provides work direction to secretaries and collaborates with Title I Support Specialists and Math Lead teachers. Assists with the selection of full and part-time instructional staff, performance evaluation, and disciplinary actions.
Decision Making :
Independent judgment is required to implement approved programs in specified subject areas.
Formal Policy-Setting Responsibilities :
May provide input or recommendations related to policy changes.
Physical Demands :
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to manipulate or handle controls, objects and or other materials; reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. The employee is required to stand walk, sit and may be required to lift up to fifty pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and peripheral vision.
Work Environment :
The employee regularly works in a school or office environment. The noise level in the work environment is quiet to moderate.
Qualifications:
Advanced knowledge of the content, concepts, principals and methodologies of specified instructional area in a public school setting; instructional program planning; child growth and development, group dynamics and of related state and federal regulations. Considerable knowledge of current curriculum development and Virginia Standards of Learning, program implementation of specified instructional area; learning theory, recent research, school organization, supervision and available state and local resources. Working knowledge of the budget process; fiscal management and the securing of special funding sources for specified instructional area. Working skill in the use of technology to support job functions. Demonstrated ability to coordinate complex programs and activities; to interpret and apply regulations; plan, organize and administer work; provide direction and evaluate a diversified professional staff and to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Demonstrated ability in decision-making, problem analysis, conflict resolution, interpersonal relationships, program management, research and planning. Eligible for Virginia teaching license. Master's Degree with endorsement in area of assignment and administration and supervision. Must have teaching experience and/or any equivalent experience or training which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
