Fort Belvoir Army Community Service, Family Advocacy Program, Fort Belvoir, VA Position Overview:
The Family Education Specialist provides comprehensive non-clinical family advocacy support services to military service members, families, and DoD civilians at Fort Belvoir. This role combines crisis intervention, education, victim advocacy, and administrative support to prevent family violence and promote healthy military families.Key Responsibilities:
- Provide crisis intervention and victim advocacy services for intimate partner violence (IPV) and problematic sexual behavior in children/youth (PSB-CY) cases
- Conduct community education training (minimum 40 sessions annually) on parenting, child development, healthy relationships, and family violence prevention
- Facilitate parent education classes, workshops, and play groups for military families
- Respond to crisis hotline within 20 minutes; provide in-person support within 60 minutes minutes when needed
- Conduct safety planning, lethality assessments, and coordinate restricted/unrestricted reporting
- Maintain caseload of up to 20 active cases with comprehensive case management
- Complete non-clinical intake assessments and coordinate community resources
- Document all services in the Army Family Web Portal (AFWP) and VADATS database within required timeframes
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and provide program administrative support
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Marriage & Family, Counseling, Behavioral Science, Education, or Community/Public Health
- Minimum 2 years direct experience with family programming, adult and child advocacy, maternal/child health, crisis intervention, or community health
- Ability to obtain/maintain a favorable background check
- Flexibility to work evening/weekend on-call shifts on rotating basis
Working Conditions:
Full-time:
40 hours/week, Monday-Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM EST- Rotating 24/7 on-call coverage (2-week shifts)
- Travel within 50-mile radius of Fort Belvoir as needed Work Authorization/Security Clearance (if applicable) Must be authorized to work in the United States and pass both criminal and child abuse background checks.
