Category Assistive Technology Specialist Job Type Contract Step into an exciting opportunity as an Assistive Technology Specialist and Braillist for the upcoming 2026/2027 school year. This contract role is situated in a vibrant educational setting near Bremerton, WA, where your expertise will make a meaningful difference in the lives of students with visual impairments.
Key Qualifications & Experience:
Proficiency in assessing and implementing assistive technology solutions tailored for students with visual needs. Demonstrated skill in Braille transcription, adaptation, and instruction, following current standards. Experience collaborating with educators, support staff, and families to promote student independence and access. Strong understanding of individualized education program (IEP) processes and compliance requirements. Familiarity with adaptive devices, software, and other accessibility tools. Excellent organizational, communication, and documentation skills.
Role Responsibilities:
Partner with educational teams to evaluate and recommend appropriate assistive technology for students. Transcribe educational materials into Braille and deliver direct Braille instruction to students. Provide training and support for educators and families on the effective use of assistive technology devices and software. Monitor student progress, maintain compliant documentation, and adjust instructional approaches as needed. Ensure all accessibility adaptations align with legal standards and best practices. Participate in IEP meetings, providing insight into assistive technology needs and Braille instruction.
