Assist the Director of Special Education in departmental responsibilities which support principals and other administrative staff in maintaining Special Education compliance with federal mandates and district policies related to student rights and responsibilities, compliance with I.D.E.A. (PartA, B, C, D
) student records, discipline, and services for students with disabilities; assure ongoing communication between the district and community advocacy agencies. Assist building administrators, certificated and classified personnel and parents in resolving student problems, and support special education programs as assigned. 123,632 - 147,623 - Experience increments depend on experience in the same or similar position. Promotion or transfer placements will be determined by percentage of increase and consideration of appropriate experience credit. Responsibilities Serve as a resource, support and consultant to school directors, principals, and assistant principals, teachers, paraprofessionals, and related service providers. Serve as a resource, support and consultant to parents/guardians. Serve as an evaluator of staff and/or work closely with building administrators to supervise staff. Establish, organize, and deliver professional development/training. Support all High School Special Education Programs (ABLE, BI, DI, Resource) Deliver professional development training during the school day as well as in the evening. Provide leadership in development and monitoring of department programs. Monitor the management of special education programs with respect to attainment of all compliance features and due process guidelines established within I.D.E.A. Supervise the Secondary Transition Programs (Images, STEP, Project SEARCH). Implement compliance features related to appropriate comprehensive evaluation of students, established individual educational plans, and due process procedures. Facilitate the implementation of procedures as outlined by the program in compliance with I.D.E.A. and the current WAC rules and regulations as issued by the State Department of Special Education. Develop/maintain effective school/community/parent relationships. Supervise and/or assist in hiring and placement of staff. Work collaboratively as a team member in the department. Identify program needs, create solutions, and implement solutions. Attend a variety of meetings, conferences, and seminars to maintain current knowledge and expertise of educational research, trends, and issues. Assist in maintaining adequate records for audit purposes and contribute to budget/expenditure discussions. Be available for additional work assignments outside of school day or school year. Facilitate the use of data to drive instruction and decisions. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor. Qualifications Valid Washington State teaching certificate or ESA certification in the field of Special Education. Master's degree in education and a Special Education endorsement. Administrative/Principal credential required or working towards obtaining. Minimum of three years of successful professional experience in the field of Special Education or closely related assignment. Experience as a teacher, service provider, or administrator 7-12 school level. Knowledge of current educational trends, research, and professional development strategies. Demonstrated leadership in collaborating with students and families to provide appropriate supports and interventions. Demonstrated working understanding of the essential components within I.D.E.A. The Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004 (IDEA) (PartA, B, C, D
) as they apply to the WAC rules and regulations. Possess a strong background in curriculum and instruction including an understanding of the instructional process and a variety of instructional techniques and a commitment to the improvement of instructional programs. Demonstrated understanding of effective instruction, assessment, and socially just practices. Demonstrated leadership in education. Ability to assist teachers and administrators in the development of behavior intervention plans and support. Exhibit high personal motivation/energy and be positive about responsibilities. Clearly communicate (orally and written) using language that is appropriate to the person or group. Reach logical conclusions and make high quality decisions using appropriate decision-making processes, take action and accept responsibility for actions and consequences. Motivate others and design activities to assist others in meeting organizational goals. Set high performance standards for self and others; be receptive to new ideas and change; and be committed to personal/professional improvement. Experience using/implementing/supporting restorative practices. Relates positively to youth and adults of varying socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic backgrounds, different learning styles, and various disabilities. Knowledge of state and federal laws, district policies and procedures related to student rights and responsibilities, student records, compulsory attendance, 504 and Title II, ELD and Special Education. Knowledge and Experience working with Community agencies who support students/adults with disabilities such as DVR, DDD, etc..... Required use of personal vehicle and cell phone.
