Instructional Systems Designer
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Instructional Systems Designer's (ISD) primary role is to design and develop instructional material for all levels of sales and application, or technical services training courses for internal and external customers. The ISD demonstrates and utilizes effective needs analysis, project management, course development, and evaluation skills. The ISD will use these skills to determine audience, develop learning objectives, create content and activities, and identify the appropriate method of delivery.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Analysis Functions
Performs learning needs and knowledge gap analysis
Defines target audience and delivery mechanism
Develops training goals based on desired knowledge or behavior outcomes
Design and Development Functions
Defines learning objectives, course outline, lesson plan, assessment instruments and activity plans for online and in-person training
Meets with SME's to gather content and supporting information and knowledge
Creates and assembles content outlined in design phase
Write Storyboards and develops all course curriculum to include hands-on/interactive labs and/or training aides, and testing methods to support learning objectives
Schedules and coordinates strategic validations with SME's to ensure satisfaction of learning objectives
Develops all student and instructor support materials
Develops course material bill of materials (BOM)
Assigns course name and unique identification number/code
Implementation Functions
Develop procedure for training facilitators and learners.
Hand-off/dry run the course with the instructor(s). Cover curriculum, learning outcomes, method of delivery, and testing procedures
Train instructor(s) on any special tools and/or technology associated with the course or activities
Ensures that books, hands-on equipment, tools, and software are in place, and that the learning application or website functions properly (if eLearning based)
Configure and manage global and system settings in the LMS
Manage dealer teams user permissions, and reporting on team activity
Create and maintain content in online courses and learning paths
Assign training to users in Competency Paths and monitor/manage compliance
Configure gamification settings
Publish ILT sessions and manage eCommerce enrollments
Evaluation Functions
Develop post training evaluations (written and hands-on) and/or surveys
Periodically attend and audit courses, interview students, and identify areas to improve the learner engagement experience
Monitor and document product changes, call center reports, product bulletins and other input that may need to be addressed within existing courses
Identify course revision needs and submit to manager for insertion in production schedule
Multimedia & Learning Management System Administration and Support
Provides support to the Video Production Specialist
Records and submits multimedia content including raw video and images from the field to marketing and the VPS for editing and release
Oversee day-to-day learning management system operations to include issue resolution, course loading/editing, course description/registration information updates, maintain rosters, scheduling, and reporting functions
Schedule and produce instructor-led distant learning events
REQUIRED SKILLS
Experience in technical writing, teaching/training, performance measuring, multimedia, curriculum and course development. Ability to work independently or on a team. Associate's Degree in Education, Instructional Design, or related subject preferred. Associated Degree required; Bachelors preferred in one of the following areas: Business, Education/Training, or commensurate level of work experience
Five years' experience in the following areas: instructional design, construction, forestry, turf grass, agricultural, mining or automotive fields.
Working knowledge of hydraulics, electrical circuits, and HVAC, mechanical and structural systems..
Ability to read, interpret and troubleshoot using both hydraulic and electrical schematics.
Working knowledge of common construction practices within residential, commercial, and civil engineering projects.
Ability to verbally/visually present concepts or technical issues to supplier, guests, internal stakeholders or executives when called upon.
Basic understanding of computer systems to include but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite and industry standard eLearning development programs. Articulate 360 and SAP Litmos preferred.
Experience with industrial equipment/engine interfacing diagnostics programs.
Strong time management skills and ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.
