Primary Summary:
The YMCA focuses on strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Adult Programs Instructor leads a variety of classes or instructional sessions for adults, such as wellness, fitness, recreation, enrichment, or sports-based activities. This role fosters a safe, engaging, and inclusive environment for participants of all backgrounds and skill levels.Essential Functions:
Instructs adult programs as assigned in accordance with YMCA guidelines and expectations. Prepares and organizes class content, materials, and equipment. Creates a welcoming and supportive environment that encourages participation and community-building. Adheres to YMCA policies and procedures including those related to safety, emergency response, and risk management. Ensures all equipment and supplies are maintained, reporting any needs or issues to the supervisor. Maintains accurate attendance and participation records as needed. Communicates program information and schedules to participants and may refer members to other YMCA programs. Attends required staff meetings and training sessions. Performs other duties as assigned.Qualifications:
Minimum age of 18 years old. Prior experience instructing classes, teaching adults, or working in wellness, fitness, recreation, or a related field preferred. Successful completion of background check. Certifications required within 30 days of start date (as applicable to the class and YMCA standards): First Aid/CPR/AED (valid for 2 years, unless otherwise noted) Completion of required YMCA Risk Management and Safety training prior to start and annually thereafterPhysical Demands:
Ability to plan and lead physical activities in various settings. Must be able to perform physical tasks such as walking, standing, squatting, kneeling, climbing, lifting, and other movements required by the specific class or activity. Must have the physical, visual, and auditory ability to perform the essential functions of the job. Employees and volunteers who do not directly supervise children and teens will: Adhere to policies related to boundaries with children and teens. Attend required abuse risk management training annually. Report suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations. Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
