The dance program at Galloway is designed for students to develop an expansive, evolving idea of dance as an art form, broadening their understanding of what dance is, what dance can be, and their personal identity as a dancer/artist. The Dance Teacher understands Galloway's mission to draw students joyfully into learning and oversees a program that is engaging and inspiring to students, faculty, and the Galloway Community. The Dance Teacher guides and facilitates students in a project driven environment, creating programs and lessons that meet students where they are, encourage creativity and individuality, hones artistry and technique and builds a passion for the arts. In consultation with the Director of Fine Arts and faculty colleagues, the ML/UL Dance Teacher is responsible for teaching a full load of classes to 5th-12th grade students, in a range of dance styles, with the broad view of integrating the Arts in the school curriculum and fostering interactions between the school and the world of the Arts. The Dance Teacher should be well-versed in teaching beginning, intermediate and advanced dance students in a mixed-level classroom, as well as skillfully guiding students through the Creative Process. Additional topics include dance composition, dance history, dance science, improvisation, dance elements and vocabulary. The ideal candidate will have experience with a wide range of dance styles and will be comfortable facilitating student-led projects, tracking student growth, and assessing student work. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
To provide the leadership and expertise necessary to ensure that the program is aligned with the mission, goals, and objectives of The Galloway School, and is an integral component of the learning/instructional program. The Dance Teacher:
Teach and facilitate a comprehensive dance curriculum for ML/UL students across a variety of dance styles/techniques Cultivate an inclusive, positive, and growth-oriented classroom environment that encourages curiosity, discipline, and creative risk-taking Develop students' technical proficiency, performance quality, creativity, and artistic expression through movement-based instruction and feedback Choreograph and prepare students for multiple performances, showcases, and school events throughout the year Guide students in both the learning and creation of choreography, fostering collaboration, confidence, and individual Date Revised:
May 2026 artistic voice Introduce students to the historical and cultural foundations of diverse dance forms and movement practices Support the development of dance literacy, including critical discussion, reflection, and written analysis of dance Create opportunities for students to engage with guest artists, master classes, festivals, and other enrichment experiences beyond the classroom Mentor students interested in pursuing dance at the collegiate or pre-professional level through portfolio development and advanced artistic preparation Integrate concepts of movement science, anatomy, wellness, and injury prevention into dance instruction Collaborate with faculty, staff, and the broader school community to support interdisciplinary learning and performing arts initiatives Maintain strong communication with students, families, and colleagues regarding student progress, performances, and program goals Orders supplies as needed and within budgetary restrictions. Full time employees may be expected to advise students and teach additional elective courses or courses at other levels within the school, as needed. Other duties as assigned Education:

Ability to work with a wide range of abilities/backgrounds. Demonstrates a comfort with technology and familiarity with learning management systems, grading etc. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Excellent oral and written communication and presentational skills. Demonstrated capability to interface and maintain effective relationships with parents, administration and staff.
