Role:
We are seeking a reliable, patient, and engaging part-time companion for a 21-year-old young man. The primary goal of this role is to provide supervised companionship and active engagement while offering regular respite for his parents. This is not a traditional medical caregiving role; rather, it is a mentorship and companionship position focused on life guidance, social skill development, and sharing in his favorite activities. About the
Individual:
He is a bright, high-functioning 21-year-old with Level 1 Autism and a minor learning difference. He has a strong Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) profile, meaning he responds best to collaborative, low-pressure interactions and declarative language rather than direct demands or authoritative approaches. He experiences hyper-fixations and can struggle with impulse control, so he thrives with a steady, grounding presence who can help him navigate the world safely.
His current interests include:
Playing disc golf Video games
Fishing Taekwondo Key Responsibilities:
Active Companionship:
Keep him engaged, active, and entertained through his preferred hobbies (e.g., heading out to local parks for a round of disc golf, fishing, or playing video games together).
Social Guidance:
Facilitate outside social interactions and provide gentle, in-the-moment guidance on acceptable social frameworks and boundaries.
Impulse & Dietary Regulation:
Help him navigate impulsive decision-making and ensure adherence to his dietary needs through subtle redirection, modeling, and collaboration.
Safe Supervision:
Maintain a safe, supportive environment while providing parents with reliable respite time.
The Ideal Candidate:
Has an understanding of—or a strong willingness to learn about—PDA and neurodivergent communication styles. Is active, easygoing, and willing to participate in physical activities like disc golf and fishing. Possesses strong emotional regulation and patience to help model healthy impulse control without escalating situations. Is dependable, trustworthy, and looking to make a meaningful, positive impact as a peer mentor.
Compensation & Schedule:
Pay:
$15-$25/hour depending on advanced qualifications.
Schedule:
1 to 3 days per week, primarily but not limited to weekdays.
Pay:
$15.00 - $25.00 per hour
