Job Description

Instructor:
Circle Urban Ministries is a non-profit organization founded in 1974. Circle Urban Ministries has worked to combat poverty, improve the educational, social, and vocational opportunities for at-risk youth, and help stabilize low-income families by providing quality social services and community development to our neighbors in Chicago's Austin community. Youth Development Instructors work in an After School Program environment where they are responsible for assisting students with completing their homework and implementing recreational & social emotional programs for youth ages 5-14 (Gym, Game Room, Arts & Crafts, Life Skills, etc.) Heavy focus on Fine Arts. The ideal candidate is looking for a part time position that is scheduled in the afternoon, usually suitable for those currently in school with morning classes studying early childhood education, sociology, humanities, fine arts, etc.
Requirements:
Have a passion for teaching and inspiring students Have a positive, upbeat attitude & physically active presence Have excellent attention to detail and supervision skills Have strong communication skills for all age levels Be able to work with others in a collaborative team environment Have an interest in education and be knowledgeable about various learning methods and educational standards Be able to adapt to a changing classroom quickly Have at least 2 years experience working in a classroom setting ie school, daycare, park district, summer camps, etc.
Responsibilities:
Provide a welcoming and safe environment for all students including physical, emotional, and social safety. Assist members with their homework & design activities among the following topics: art, games, sports and social emotional activities. Maintain the classroom schedule and organize classroom materials. Adequately document attendance, incident reports, and program news to parents Provide guidance and mentorship to members so that they can learn communication skills, conflict resolution, and positive decision making skills.

$18.00 - $22.00 per hour
