POSITION SUMMARY
Cincinnati Ballet seeks a Resident Faculty member to deliver high-quality dance instruction within the Otto M. Budig Academy across the Preparatory, Young Dancer, Community, and Advanced Divisions for students ages 8 and up. Reporting to the Academy Director, this role supports the Academy's artistic and educational vision through excellence in ballet pedagogy, student development, and classroom engagement. The Resident Faculty member fosters both a lifelong appreciation of dance and the development of students pursuing professional training. The ideal candidate is an experienced ballet educator who demonstrates strong technical expertise, professionalism, and a positive, student-centered approach. This individual serves as a mentor and ambassador for Cincinnati Ballet, contributing to a supportive and inclusive learning environment. In collaboration with Academy leadership, the Resident Faculty member supports the planning and execution of programs that strengthen the Academy's quality, growth, and national reputation. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide high-quality, age-appropriate instruction in ballet that meets the needs of and appropriately challenges and prepares students based on the Academy's syllabus. Teaching responsibilities include a primary focus on early and advancing ballet training and will include ballet technique, pointe, repertoire, conditioning, and other select coursework. Teaching is inclusive of both school year and summer programming and may also include the Academy's Adult Division and Professional Training Division. Mentor students in the artistic, physical, and mental demands for a career in dance. Provide career guidance for aspiring students. Create an inspiring and compassionate environment for all participants, providing guidance and encouragement to all students equitably. Maintain a deep commitment to Cincinnati Ballet's principles of Identity, Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IIDEA) through programming and relationships that prioritize inclusion and belonging, welcome and celebrate cultural differences and all socioeconomic backgrounds, and provide a safe space for expression for all participants. Choreograph, stage, and rehearse works for students to perform throughout the year in both mainstage, studio and community settings, ensuring a high-quality production. Support recruitment efforts and practices that advance the caliber of all programs as well as the organization's commitment to diversity and inclusion. Represent the Academy during our national audition tour and at various festivals and events. Maintain proper discipline and engagement in the studio with creativity, patience, and grace. Enforce disciplinary action as necessary as determined by Cincinnati Ballet behavioral guidelines. Formally evaluate each student up to two times annually. Meet with students and parents to provide feedback and assistance when appropriate. Record and report on student attendance and monitor student progress. Provide administrative support for the Academy + Education department including but not limited to scheduling, communication, and record keeping. Adhere to all Cincinnati Ballet program policies, employee guidelines and Academy Instructor expectations at all times. Exhibit appropriate behavior and language to ensure all spaces and classes are welcoming and inclusive to all students and their family members. Maintain collaborative and clear communication with supervisor on all department matters. Provide regular and timely feedback on status of programs, student progress and disciplinary issues. Maintain a proactive and flexible approach to work including a willingness to participate in marketing and recruitment initiatives as well as Academy events and performances. Support classes requiring substitute coverage as reasonably able. Check email regularly and respond to all communications in a timely manner. Attend all faculty meetings, trainings and continuing education activities. Perform other duties as assigned which may occur outside of the regular class schedule.
KEY PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
In-depth knowledge of classical ballet and pedagogical techniques. College degree in dance preferred or equivalent professional dance training/experience in ballet and other dance styles. Minimum of four years of advanced teaching experience in ballet. Strong experience in choreography and/or staging and rehearsal of dance works. Nurturing demeanor with the ability to exercise authority and discipline when necessary. A passion for serving students and families and a commitment to the values and culture of Cincinnati Ballet's Academy + Education programs. Exhibits capacity and drive to inspire all types of students as well as an ability to approach and effectively support individual learning styles. Proven ability to work sensitively and effectively with people from a variety of different ethnic, socio-economic, educational, religious, sexual orientation, gender diverse and generational backgrounds. Exceptional judgment and an unwavering commitment to ensuring the protection and safety of minors including appropriate staff-student relationships. Clear and compassionate communicator. Effective administrator with a collaborative spirit, strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills. Desire to learn and grow in teaching practice and leadership development. Proficient in modern technologies including but not limited to MS Office and Zoom. Candidate will be subject to criminal background, motor vehicle and credit checks.
ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS
Top candidates must be willing to teach an in-person class as part of the interviewing process. To be considered for this position, candidates must be willing to complete a criminal background, motor vehicle, and credit checks.
EXPECTED WORK HOURS AND TRAVEL
Must be able to work a highly flexible schedule which may include weekday and/or weekend hours between 9 am and 8:30 pm. Most hours are scheduled in advance, but weekly flexibility is required. Hours change seasonally. On occasion, travel to audition sites, performance venues, and community centers may be required.
