Dance Teacher, 2025-2026
LOCATION:

Education and experience as required by state certification authorities
REPORTS TO
Building Administrator
GENERAL SUMMARY
Under general supervision assists students in learning subject matter and/or skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible men and women.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Teach dance using a variety of styles and methodologies, starting at the beginner level, including but not limited to ballet, jazz, modern, hip-hop, and cultural dance forms.
Develop and implement engaging and standards-based dance curriculums in accordance with the SC Department of Education's curriculum guide and indicators for dance education.
Prepare appropriate lesson plans to meet the developmental needs of middle and high school students.
Align instruction with South Carolina College- and Career-Ready Standards for Visual and Performing Arts Proficiency.
Communicate effectively with a diverse group of students, fostering an inclusive and supportive environment.
Engage, encourage, and motivate students to set and achieve personal and artistic goals.
Evaluate student performance through assessments and provide constructive feedback for improvement.
Choreograph routines and select appropriate music for school performances, competitions, and events.
Collaborate with other staff and departments to integrate performances into broader school programs.
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students and maintain the care of property, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and board policies fairly and consistently.
Recognize and follow the chain of command as designated by board policies and/or administrative procedures.
Participate in school and district staff development programs as assigned by the principal or superintendent.
Attend staff meetings, serve on committees, and contribute to co-curricular activities as assigned.
Present a positive image of Spartanburg District Five Schools in all interactions with the community.
Maintain punctuality and responsibility in performing assigned duties and activities.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Conducts duties in a classroom environment with no significant exposure to environmental conditions. Requires ability to work under a degree of stress related to duties that require constant attention and working with students. Physical demands are restricted to classroom work requiring lifting/moving of items up to 25 pounds. Occasional local travel is required; no overnight travel is required. Job requires the operation of standard office equipment.
