Dance Teacher Reports to: Principal This position follows the school year calendar. Employee understands and promotes the Elizabeth Academy mission, vision, core values and policies both within and outside the immediate school community. Employee is also responsible for performing other duties as assigned by the Principal.Required Time Commitment:
1. Regular working hours are 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday during the academic year for the Dance Teacher position and until the last student is picked up from the after-school program. 2. Expected to arrive to and leave from work at scheduled times. Although we understand that emergencies can occur, if we observe a pattern of tardiness or early departures, you will receive a verbal warning. If late arrivals or early departures continue, this will be noted in your file and could impact your current and future employment. 3. Staff meetings, Collaborative Planning, and Teacher Workdays (unless approved prior, in which case Employee is still responsible for reading and understanding meeting notes), and other hours as required and deemed necessary by the Principal. 4. Up to 40 additional hours of work in the summer for the dance teacher position spent curriculum planning, creating materials, engaging in professional development, meeting with the program level staff, coordinating with special educators, therapists, and related service providers on classroom inclusion needs, and assessing potential students. During the summer of 2026, employee is required to attend Elizabeth Academy professional development from June 23-25 and August 4-6. Pre-planning will begin on August 10.Planning, Preparation, and Instruction Duties:
Create instruction that supports the development of the cognitive, emotional, social, physical, and spiritual growth of the child. 1. Use the School Curriculum and current research-based best instructional practices approved by the Principal to develop integrated units of instruction that meet group and individual needs of all students. 2. Responsible for maintaining an on-going dialogue and coordinating curriculum integration and implementation with classroom teachers and Special Educators. 3. Work with students of various abilities, including those with special needs and learning differences. 4. Use various assessment tools/strategies as approved by the Primary School principal to help make instructional decisions for individual students. 5. Responsible for organization and overall direction of dance showcase events, including event organization, marketing/communication to parents, etc. with the oversight of the Primary School principal.Enrichment Class Environment/Management Duties:
Responsible for preparing an environment that meets the sensitive period/plane of development of the children he/she works with. 1. Create an environment that demonstrates rapport with respect and kindness for all students as well as between students. Model and guide children in conflict resolution and problem-solving strategies. Promote understanding and appreciation of all cultures. 2. Demonstrate rapport with respect and kindness for, and collaboration with all staff members and parents. Proactively use conflict resolution and problem-solving strategies in interactions with all adults to maintain a peaceful and respectful school environment. 3. Promptly report behavioral and/or learning concerns beyond typical classroom strategies to the Primary School principal, fill out any appropriate forms and follow the procedures outlined in the Staff Handbook. Keep an open line of communication with classroom teachers. 4. Promptly report to the Primary School principal and fill out the appropriate school form if any concerns arise related to potential child abuse or neglect. 5. Responsible for the safety of all children in his/her care until dismissed to a responsible adult. Responsible for the appropriate treatment and well-being of all children in the school, based on respect, positive discipline and consistency with the teachings of Montessori. No child should ever be left unsupervised either inside or outside the classroom, except when directed by the teacher.Inclusion:
At Elizabeth Academy, it is normal to have a wide range of student needs in each classroom. The following guidelines will help you to be a successful Enrichment teacher within this inclusive setting. 1. Responsible for modeling a positive, proactive attitude toward inclusion and being open to its constant evolution and development at our school. The Enrichment Teacher's growth mindset related to inclusion is vital. 2. Responsible for staying up to date on inclusion research and best practices, for utilizing and collaborating with specialists, implementing their recommendations, and documenting this process. 3. Must always respect student confidentiality.Qualifications of Position:
Employee must have dance experience and ability as well as experience working with adolescents in an inclusive environment. Employee will serve as a role model for students and must always maintain a positive attitude and a high level of professionalism. Employee is expected to spend a significant portion of working hours with students.
