Job Description

Chatham Hall is seeking a dynamic dance teacher to lead our after-school activities program, Monday through Friday from 3:45 pm to 6:00 pm. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching dance in high schools. Special consideration will be given to candidates who can support dorm life, teach Spanish, and/or support our Communications director in graphic design. These additional responsibilities can lead to a full-time faculty position. Key Responsibilities Offer a broad concert dance curriculum that is suitable for varying levels of prior dance training, from beginner to advanced dancer. This includes ballet, pointe, modern/contemporary, jazz, and improvisation, among other forms of dance. Produce three yearly performances, including possible collaboration with musical theatre in the winter. Ability to teach using various dance styles and methodologies from beginning to advanced level. Develop dance curriculum and prepare lesson plans. Communicate with a diverse group of students and parents. Choreograph routines and select music for recitals and concerts. Provide a fun and creative environment. Keep up-to-date in the discipline and implement any changes to dance routines and curriculum as needed. Attend opening faculty meeting. Maintain communication and records with faculty and staff in a timely manner. This position description is not all-inclusive, as other tasks and responsibilities may be assigned. Compensation and Benefits Depending on the other roles the dance teacher can fill, this can be a part-time or full-time position. Campus housing may be available. All meals provided in the dining hall during the academic year. Access to Chatham Hall's facilities during operating hours. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in dance or qualification from an accredited college or university. Previous teaching experience preferred. Must be available Monday through Friday, 3:45 - 6 PM, and at other times during production week, including availability for weekend performances three times a year.
