This is a part-time position requiring primarily two to three weekday afternoon rehearsals from September through early February, and then ongoing work with recruitment, try-outs, and new member practices February through June with a one plus week intensive practice period in the summer. The team will perform at several home Football and Varsity Basketball games and possibly participate in pep assemblies. The successful candidate will have knowledge of dance and dance routines, ability to work effectively with students, ability and willingness to meet all of the required coaching standards (first aid, CPR, AED, etc.), willingness to coordinate school and public appearances. Previous dance experience as a participant or coach. Stipends are contingent upon the Mukilteo School District approving extra-curricular activities during the 26-27 school year.

JOB SUMMARY
The dance coach is responsible for creating and overseeing the teaching of choreography to the dancers so that they can perform at home athletic events, as well as other appropriate events should the team be invited. The coach will oversee instruction, guide and enable the dancers to perform to the best of their abilities while ensuring a positive, professional, and team-spirited learning environment.
DANCE COACH RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Understand, communicate, and assist in ensuring dancer conformance with the Mukilteo SD Athletic/Activities contract. Conduct and supervise dance auditions for the upcoming season. Evaluate and select team members during team auditions (Auditions completed this June). Oversee choreography of a minimum of 4-6 routines, ensuring music and choreography is appropriate for an educational/family setting. Highlight dancers' unique qualities while continuing to instruct all members to improve everyone's technique and abilities. Organize, prepare for, and lead productive practice sessions in a positive, inspiring environment that promotes self-esteem, teamwork, and pride in the Dance Team. Prepare the team for performances at football games, basketball games, pep assemblies, and may participate in some school or community events as well. Make recommendations for necessary apparel items that are needed for competitions and/or dance performances within budgetary constraints. All recommendations are to be approved by the Activities Assistant Principal. Work with Activities Assistant Principal on any team issues, concerns, communications, or needs required to meet team objectives. Communicate regularly with the Activities Assistant Principal. Communicate regularly with dancers regarding scheduling for games and practices, and uniforms, hair, and makeup styles for performances. In addition to fulfilling the responsibilities listed above, seeks a Coach with exceptional communication, time management and organizational skills, and the enthusiasm and commitment to support the dancers in their development and love of dance. Implement and comply with WIAA regulations, and District and Building policies and procedures. Maintain consistent attendance and conform to regular work hours specified. Maintain current knowledge of sport techniques/issues, coaching certification, and training requirements. Attend meetings, clinics, and workshops. Fulfill other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job. Knowledge of the specific sport, its rules, required skills and abilities, coaching techniques, game strategy, and student development. Skill and ability to develop and instruct student athletes, and to apply effective game strategy. Skill and ability to motivate students, and to impart sportsmanship, teamwork, and self-esteem. Skill and ability to effectively communicate with a variety of constituents. Skill and ability to develop teamwork and collaboration of various stakeholders. Ability to exercise discretion and maintain trust and confidentiality. Ability to exercise sound judgment. Ability to develop professional and positive relationships with others. Skill and ability to follow and give written and verbal instructions. Skills and abilities in organization, efficiency, time management, budgeting, and record keeping. Skills and abilities of accuracy and attention to detail. Must be 21 years of age per WIAA regulations.
Education:
High school diploma or its equivalent. Formal training in the specific sport as per WIAA requirements including current CPR/first aid card. College degree, preferred.
Experience:
Student cultural and economic diversity experience, preferred. Three years of successful experience as a head or varsity coach at the high school level, college level or professional level or other comparable experience, preferred.
