Jul 1, 2026 Job Description The Tucson Unified School District is looking for an Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction to drive districtwide academic achievement through rigorous curriculum evaluation and the implementation of evidence-based instructional coaching. In this role, you will chair curriculum councils, oversee leadership development pathways, and ensure that all professional learning is strictly aligned with district strategic goals and state compliance standards. By partnering with Assessment and Evaluation, you will monitor instructional effectiveness and refine delivery systems to close achievement gaps and strengthen the district's educational mission.
REPORTS TO
Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction SUMMARY The Executive Director of Curriculum, Instruction & Professional Learning provides strategic leadership for the district's instructional core. This role is responsible for ensuring high-quality Tier I instruction across all schools through aligned curriculum design, instructional frameworks, professional learning systems, leadership development, and instructional coaching. The Executive Director leads the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of K-12 curriculum and professional learning systems, including teacher induction, leadership development, and districtwide instructional priorities. The position ensures instructional coherence, research-based practice, and alignment to district goals, state standards, and accountability requirements.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Master's Degree in Education, Educational Administration, Educational Leadership, Curriculum & Instruction or related educational field. Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card. Valid Arizona Administrative Certificate. Seven (7) years of progressive leadership experience in K-12 education, including any combination of Instruction, Curriculum Development, and Administration. Five (5) years of experience with curriculum implementation, instructional improvement, and professional learning systems. Three (3) years of experience applying academic standards and state assessment requirements in a professional setting. Three (3) years of demonstrated experience in K-12 Education as a school or district administrator.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Doctoral degree in Education, Educational Administration, Educational Leadership, Curriculum & Instruction or related educational field. Valid Arizona Superintendent Certificate. Three (3) years of experience evaluating instructional programs and teaching effectiveness. Two (2) years of professional experience managing budgets. Two (2) years of experience directing diverse teams in the execution of cross-functional initiatives that impact organization-wide operations. Two (2) years of experience ensuring compliance with State and Federal education regulations. Two (2) years of experience leading diverse employee groups (e.g. teachers, administrators, classified staff, etc). Three (3) years of experience drafting formal grant proposals or reports for executive review. Three (3) years of experience creating and delivering formal presentations.
