Dean of Instruction Catalyst Academy Charter School | Pittsburgh, PA Be Part of the Catalyst Academy Team! Catalyst Academy Charter School (est. 2020) is a mission-driven public charter school founded to provide a world-class education to historically underserved families and communities in Pittsburgh. Now serving more than 350 scholars in grades Kindergarten through 6th, Catalyst Academy is continuing its expansion into middle school. In the 2027-2028 school year, we will continue building toward a full K-8 model as we expand our middle school programming. The Dean of Instruction is a pivotal instructional leadership role at Catalyst Academy. This leader is responsible for coaching, developing, and supporting teachers to ensure rigorous instruction, strong classroom culture, and fidelity to curriculum implementation. The Dean of Instruction works in close partnership with school leadership and staff to advance Catalyst's mission and cultivate an environment where all scholars Belong. Grow. Achieve. Position Summary The Dean of Instruction provides instructional leadership to teachers through coaching, observation, feedback, data analysis, and professional development. This role ensures excellence in classroom instruction, drives academic outcomes, strengthens educator practice, and maintains alignment with Catalyst Academy's instructional model and school-wide expectations. Key Responsibilities Instructional Coaching & Teacher Development Coach and support teachers in the implementation of rigorous, standards-aligned instruction. Provide regular formal and informal classroom observations followed by actionable feedback. Develop teacher capacity in lesson execution, questioning strategies, differentiation, and classroom management. Lead coaching cycles that improve instructional effectiveness and scholar outcomes. Curriculum Implementation & Fidelity Ensure teachers effectively utilize designated curriculum with fidelity. Support educators in lesson internalization, planning, and execution aligned to Pennsylvania standards. Monitor curriculum pacing, instructional rigor, and alignment across grade levels. Data-Driven Leadership Analyze scholar achievement data, observation trends, and instructional outcomes to guide coaching priorities. Support teachers in using assessment data to adjust instruction and improve scholar mastery. Track instructional growth and monitor progress toward academic goals. Classroom Excellence & Scholar Outcomes Ensure strong classroom culture systems are consistently implemented. Promote high expectations for scholar engagement, behavior, and achievement. Identify instructional gaps and intervene proactively to improve classroom performance. Professional Development & Staff Capacity Building Design and facilitate professional development sessions for teachers and instructional staff. Lead collaborative planning meetings focused on instructional improvement. Ensure staff remain current with best practices in teaching and learning. Leadership & Schoolwide Collaboration Collaborate with school leadership to align instructional priorities with school goals. Participate in interviewing, onboarding, evaluating, and developing instructional staff. Represent instructional priorities in leadership meetings and school initiatives. Curriculum Expertise Demonstrates strong understanding of curriculum implementation, standards alignment, and instructional rigor. Relationship Building Builds trust and credibility with teachers, staff, scholars, and leadership. Communication Excellence Communicates clearly, directly, and professionally in written and verbal formats. Equity and Cultural Competence Demonstrates commitment to educational equity and culturally responsive leadership practices. Accountability and Execution Maintains high expectations, follows through consistently, and ensures results. Required Skills & Qualifications Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred Valid Pennsylvania teaching certification appropriate for elementary and/or middle school instruction required Minimum of 3 years demonstrated excellence in classroom teaching Minimum of 1 year experience coaching, mentoring, or supervising teachers preferred Demonstrated success improving instructional practice and scholar outcomes Strong classroom observation and feedback skills Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Proficiency with educational technology tools for instruction and assessment Strong organizational, leadership, and project management abilities Passion for educational excellence and commitment to scholar success Preferred Qualifications Experience in charter schools, urban schools, or high-expectations educational environments preferred Experience leading professional development for adult learners preferred Familiarity with standards-aligned curriculum implementation and instructional coaching models preferred Job Type Full-Time In Person Equal Employment Opportunity Statement Catalyst Academy Charter School is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for all employees, scholars, and families.
