Exempt General Definition of Work The Assistant Director of Alternative & Virtual Learning provides essential leadership and administrative oversight for the Flexible Learning Center, which houses the Aspire High, Aspire Middle, and Virtual Aspire programs, as well as the district's Virtual Academy. This role is specifically designed to bridge the gap between high-security behavioral management and academic progress, ensuring that students in all tracks receive high-quality, rigorous instruction. Salary/Status Assistant Director Salary Schedule/Full-Time/240 days Start Date Determined by Human Resources Place of Work The normal place of work is on the premises used by Rock Hill Schools. Rock Hill Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time.Essential Functions Instructional Leadership:
Assist in leading and evaluating teacher effectiveness specifically within virtual and alternative environments to ensure "severe behavior" management does not come at the expense of academic growth.Staff Supervision:
Assists in hiring, supervising, and evaluating instructional staff for the Flexible Learning Center and Virtual Academy programs.Special Education Governance:
Acts as the LEA representative in IEP meetings, ensuring all services and accommodations align with legal requirements and student needs.Virtual Pedagogy Oversight:
Assist in leading and facilitating instructional staff in the alignment and implementation of curriculum, instruction, scheduling and assessment specifically tailored for the digital environment to meet state and local goals.Enrollment/Marketing:
Support RHVA program operations, including the enrollment process and marketing efforts for the Virtual Academy as a "Choice Program" within the district.Virtual Track Management:
Manages the high-security virtual track (Virtual Aspire) for students whose behaviors require remote instruction, focusing on both disciplinary tracking and instructional integrity.Transition Success:
Develops and evaluates re-entry strategies for students transitioning from the Flexible Learning Center or Virtual Academy back to traditional school settings.Operational Oversight:
Assists in administering school safety programs and managing site-level operations in accordance with district and state regulations.Culture & Collaboration:
Creates a caring, inclusive, and responsive school culture while facilitating communication between parents, students, and community partners.Data-Driven Planning:
Utilizes multiple measures of student performance to implement plans aimed at improving achievement across alternative settings. Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesSpecialized Knowledge:
Deep understanding of laws and regulations relating to special education (IDEA), alternative education, and virtual learning environments.Instructional Acuity:
Ability to evaluate and coach teachers on effective instructional and assessment practices in a non-traditional or digital setting.Interpersonal Skills:
Strong ability to work with a significant diversity of individuals, particularly in high-stress conflict resolution or disciplinary matters.Problem Solving:
Independent problem-solving skills required to analyze complex behavioral or academic issues and create actionable intervention plans.Communication:
Effective communication across multiple modes (verbal, written, and digital) to support diverse stakeholders. Education and Experience Master's degree in educational administration or related field required. Graduate work in administration, curriculum planning and implementation, teacher evaluation and supervision and evaluation required. Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in education leadership preferred. Specific experience in alternative or virtual settings is highly desirable. Job-related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required. Certifications, Licenses, or Registrations SC Certification in secondary administration or ability to obtain. Special Requirements Must have and maintain a valid Driver's License or ability to provide own transportation. May be required to travel to school district buildings and professional meetings. Prior to beginning employment, negative tb test results must be provided Physical Requirements/Work Conditions Work requires the occasional exertion of up to ten pounds of force. Work regularly requires exchange of accurate and detailed information through oral and written communication. Constantly operates a computer and other office business equipment. Ability to remain in stationary position for required meetings/work Ability to move to other work locations. Visual acuity requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, and to receive detailed information through oral communications. Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating standard office equipment, and the use of advanced technology. Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g., business office, light traffic). Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under mild to high levels of stress. Pre-Onboarding and Employment Requirements As a condition of employment and prior to onboarding, the district will conduct a criminal history background check. The recommended candidate will be required to provide personal information necessary to complete the background check such as date of birth, gender, and race to remain in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. As part of the pre-employment process, candidates will be required to submit TB test results and complete designated employment tasks.
