SUPERVISES
EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree in education (required) Master's degree in education (recommended) Principal or Mid-Management certification (recommeded)
EXPERIENCE
Minimum of three years of teaching experience required. Minimum of three years of administrative experience required (recommended). Experience with advanced academics and/or dual credit or college readiness programs preferred.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
1. In-depth knowledge of best practices in curriculum, instruction, and assessment 2. Ability to evaluate curriculum, instruction, and assessment programs and teaching effectiveness 3. Experience in planning and presenting staff development for teachers and staff 4. Ability to collaborate with district departments and school leaders to provide appropriate and aligned support to schools. 5. Experience in preparing and managing budgets and personnel 6. Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data 7. Excellent communication, customer service, public relations, organizational, and interpersonal skills. 8. Ability to develop, organize, and facilitate professional learning opportunities based on identified needs and in alignment with district goals. Position Function/Purpose The Director of Teaching & Learning provides district-level leadership to support high-quality instruction, curriculum implementation, and advanced academic programming across Midland ISD. This position works in close partnership with the Executive Director of Teaching & Learning to translate district vision into coherent instructional systems, oversee advanced academics, and ensure alignment across curriculum, assessment, and professional learning. Essential Functions 1. Support the Executive Director of Teaching & Learning in the development, implementation, and monitoring of district instructional priorities. 2. Ensure alignment of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional learning across grade levels and content areas. 3. Collaborate with content coordinators to strengthen instructional coherence and rigor. 4. Support data-informed decision making to improve student outcomes. 5. Oversee district advanced academic programs, including gifted and talented services, advanced coursework, and enrichment pathways. 6. Provide district-level coordination and oversight of Dual Credit programming in collaboration with secondary leadership and partner institutions of higher education. 7. Support the implementation of state and district requirements related to gifted education and advanced academics. 8. Monitor program effectiveness and support continuous improvement efforts. 9. Assist in the design and delivery of district professional learning aligned to instructional priorities. 10. Support campus leaders and teachers in implementing research-based instructional practices. 11. Serve as a resource to principals and campus instructional leaders. 12. Communicate effectively with parents, staff, and community members regarding instructional initiatives and advanced academic programs. Support cross-department collaboration to ensure cohesive implementation of district initiatives. 13. Support compliance with state and federal requirements related to instruction and advanced academics. 14. Assist with program evaluations, audits, and required reporting. 15. Ensure practices align with district policies and Board goals. 16. Attend regional, state, and national meetings to gain knowledge of new information related to best practices and curriculum resources 17. Support campus library staff by providing professional learning opportunities and assisting with library management 18. Assist with ensuring that operations are supportive of the instructional goals and objectives of the district and the attainment of the campus performance objectives 19. Assist with facilitating the appropriate use of technology in the teaching/learning process 20. Screen and assist with interviewing applicants for various positions in the Teaching and Learning department
OTHER DUTIES
Attends and is visible at campus, district, and community functions to support the efforts of students, staff, and patrons. Participates fully in the development and implementation of the district's efforts to enhance the student expereince. Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Teaching and Learning.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Must be able to maintain emotional control under stress. Occasionally required to travel to facilities within the district.
