Description:
The Director of Teaching, Learning & Innovation K-12 provides districtwide leadership for curriculum, instruction, professional learning, instructional resources, innovation, differentiation, and instructional coaching across all grade levels. This position oversees Instructional/PLC Coaches and Innovative Learning Coaches; builds coherent K-12 instructional systems; supports school leaders, teacher leaders, instructional coaches, and district departments; and ensures students receive high-quality, equitable, standards-aligned, and research-based learning experiences. The Director works collaboratively with district and school leaders to align curriculum, professional learning, instructional frameworks, PLC practices, coaching systems, materials adoption, educator capacity-building, and progress monitoring to improve outcomes for every student.
Essential Functions:
Lead the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of districtwide K-12 curriculum and instructional frameworks aligned to state standards and district priorities. Ensure vertical and horizontal curriculum coherence across grade levels, content areas, programs, and schools. Coordinate instructional materials review, adoption, implementation, and ongoing support, including curriculum resources, pacing guidance, and instructional tools. Design and lead districtwide professional learning that strengthens educator practice, administrator instructional leadership, teacher-leader capacity, effective PLC practice, and instructional coaching impact. Oversee the district Instructional/PLC Coaches and Innovative Learning Coaches, including role clarity, deployment, coaching expectations, professional learning, collaboration structures, supervision, evaluation, and impact monitoring. Guide Instructional/PLC Coaches in supporting school teams with PLC processes, standards clarity, learning targets, common formative assessments, data analysis, responsive instruction, intervention and extension, and collaborative team practices. Guide Innovative Learning Coaches in supporting schools with instructional innovation, digital learning tools, blended and personalized learning practices, model lessons, teacher coaching cycles, and effective technology integration aligned to district instructional priorities. Provide leadership for differentiation, advanced learning, enrichment, intervention alignment, and instructional innovation so that all students have appropriate access, support, and extension. Collaborate with the Director of Assessment, Accountability & Federal Programs to analyze student learning data, identify trends, and support school and district improvement cycles. Partner with Student Services and Special Education to strengthen MTSS, intervention systems, inclusive instructional practices, and student-centered supports. Support principals, assistant principals, instructional/PLC coaches, innovative learning coaches, and teacher leaders in implementing research-based instructional practices and monitoring implementation fidelity. Supervise, evaluate, and develop assigned staff, including Instructional/PLC Coaches, Innovative Learning Coaches, coordinators, specialists, and teacher leaders assigned to the department. Manage assigned budgets, contracts, instructional materials, professional learning resources, and program expenditures in alignment with district priorities. Prepare and present reports, updates, and recommendations to district leadership, the Board of Education, schools, and community stakeholders as assigned. Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission and strategic priorities of the district.
Qualifications:
Credentials, education, and experience 1. Master's degree required; advanced degree in curriculum and instruction, educational leadership, or a related field preferred. 2. Appropriate administrator license authorizing service as an administrator/supervisor required. 3. Successful classroom teaching experience and successful school or district leadership experience required. 4. Demonstrated expertise in curriculum development, instructional strategies, professional learning, differentiation, data-informed improvement, and implementation of instructional systems at scale. 5. Demonstrated ability to lead adult learning, facilitate collaboration, communicate clearly, manage projects and budgets, and build trust with school and district leaders. 6. Knowledge of effective K-12 instructional practices, standards alignment, instructional materials adoption, assessment literacy, MTSS, and continuous improvement processes.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience leading K-12 curriculum systems, Instructional/PLC coaching models, advanced learning, or digital/innovative learning initiatives. Experience supporting school improvement efforts and using multiple data sources to guide instructional decisions.
