Job Summary and Purpose
The Director for Core Curriculum will ensure that all students and teachers in Stafford County Public Schools (SCPS) have access to strong curricular resources in reading, writing, mathematics, science, and history / social studies. The Assistant Director will oversee a team of content specialists, aligning work with SCPS strategic priorities for instruction, and empowering school-based educators to access the resources necessary to provide excellent instruction. Work Objectives/Essential Functions
Lead the selection, adoption, and evaluation of curriculum in core content areas aligned to SCPS strategic priorities and the Virginia Standards of Quality
Leads SCPS efforts to review, revise, and implement instructional materials
Designs short-term and long-range planning of instructional programs and initiatives aligned to SCPS strategic priorities
Lead a team of cross-curricular specialists to establish standards for curricular resources and ensure alignment of support offered to schools and educators across all content areas
Supports the Director of Academic Programs in administering the department's budget and making strategic decisions on allocation of resources and pursuit of additional funding opportunities
Works closely with building administrators and department chairs to identify and develop resources and other supports to assist teachers in executing curriculum resources effectively
Convene administrators, school based specialists, and classroom educators to identify the skill and knowledge areas to focus learning resources
Work with building administrators to define and monitor the role of reading and math specialists to ensure these specialists provide needed in-school support
Work with other departments, especially Human Resources and Talent Development, to place curriculum-specific learning needs into differentiated professional learning scopes and sequences
Lead the planning and execution of division-wide summer learning programs, including conception, content, communication, registration, and staffing Education and Experience
Education Attainment (Required): Master's degree in education, educational leadership,
instruction, curriculum design, or related fields
Education Attainment (Preferred): Terminal degree (Ed.
D. or Ph.D.)
Relevant Experience (Required): Five (5) or more years of progressive leadership
overseeing instruction in K-12 public schools,
with a strong preference for experience as an
instructional leader in a core content area at
either the school or central office level
Relevant Experience (Preferred): Industry Licensure or Certifications (Required): Virginia Postgraduate Professional License with endorsement in Administration and Supervision, or ability to
secure same,
Industry Licensure or Certifications (Preferred): Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
