Director of Teaching and Learning, ECE-Elementary International Friends School Bellevue, WA Job Details Contract $75,000 - $90,000 a year 7 hours ago Benefits Health insurance Dental insurance Paid time off Retirement plan Qualifications Teamwork Interpersonal skills Curriculum development Early childhood education English Chinese Interpersonal communication Full Job Description Position Summary The Director of Teaching and Learning, ECE-Elementary, is a key instructional leadership role responsible for advancing IFS's educational vision and ensuring excellence in teaching and learning across its Early Childhood and Elementary programs. This role champions joyful, inquiry-based learning within a whole-child, Mandarin immersion philosophy — cultivating a thriving community where children, educators, and families grow together. Key Responsibilities The Director of Teaching and Learning will: Provide curriculum leadership and instructional support for teaching faculty across the Early Childhood and Elementary programs. Lead inquiry-based, developmentally appropriate pedagogical practices aligned with IFS's Mandarin immersion and whole-child educational goals. Ensure curricular coherence, continuity, and alignment across grade levels and programs. Plan and facilitate meaningful faculty professional development. Conduct regular classroom observations and deliver timely, actionable, growth-oriented instructional feedback. Guide teachers through a robust onboarding, mentorship, and professional growth process. Conduct teacher evaluations that support reflection, continuous improvement, and professional excellence. Foster a collaborative, reflective, and joyful teaching culture. Support students with diverse learning needs through differentiated instruction, individualized learning plans, and inclusive classroom practices. Collaborate with teachers to design and implement tiered intervention strategies. Collect and analyze student learning data to inform instructional decisions and communicate progress with families. Serve as a faculty resource on learning differences, accommodations, and inclusive teaching practices. Contribute to strategic planning, enrollment and advancement efforts, and daily operations as a member of the IFS administrative team. Teach in a subject area of personal expertise, comprising approximately one-third of the overall role. Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School. Qualifications The ideal candidate will bring: At least 3 years of experience in Early Childhood and/or Elementary Education. Deep knowledge of inquiry-based pedagogy, child development, and differentiated instruction. A strong track record in curriculum development and instructional leadership. Demonstrated experience hiring, mentoring, coaching, and evaluating educators. Experience in a multilingual or immersion school environment. Professional proficiency in Mandarin Chinese and English. Excellent communication skills with faculty, families, and educational partners. Strong strategic thinking, systems-level planning, and hands-on operational skills. A deep commitment to whole-child development, joyful learning, and inclusive education. Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and relationship-building skills.
