Job Description

Work Hours - Flexible, Part-Time schedule; Up to 18 hours per week; Arts & Enrichment disciplines: Dance, Foreign Language, STEM, and others.
JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision, the Instructor I - Expect Excellence is responsible for planning, organizing, and leading instructional activities within the Expect Excellence program. The position oversees daily program activities, ensures participant safety, maintains equipment and supplies, and delivers structured, engaging instruction regularly to elementary-age students occasionally to middle and high-school age students. Instructors serve as positive role models and work collaboratively with program leadership to provide high-quality programming that supports skill development, teamwork, and personal growth.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ALL INSTRUCTORS
Develops lesson plans, prepares supply lists, and coordinates program logistics. Develops structured, engaging, and age-appropriate lesson plans throughout the semester. Leads and instructs in assigned courses. Completes required documentation including hours worked, class sizes, and program photographs. Monitors and oversees daily activities within assigned Expect Excellence programs. Maintains order and positive behavior during practices and classes. Provides individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil and evaluates each pupil's growth and performance. Serves as a positive role model by demonstrating professionalism and integrity. Selects and requisitions books, instruments, and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records. Sets up, distributes, collects, and maintains equipment and supplies. Controls the storage and use of City-owned property; makes minor adjustments and requests repairs; monitors equipment condition and reports replenishment or maintenance needs. Ensures the safety and well-being of participants by enforcing program rules and safety guidelines. Communicates with parents of minor pupils' progress and necessary practice schedule. Maintains positive public relations in the community. Maintains current professional certifications as required.
MUSIC INSTRUCTORS
Assists with the development of masterclass opportunities for the public. Supervises classroom of students in an art skills instructional setting(voice, dance, and/or several instruments). Assists supervisor with developing opportunities to showcase student's abilities and accomplishments within entire programs that will include, but are not limited to, performances and recitals each semester. Communicates positively and professionally in all aspects of the position. Attends all department meetings, City meetings, and professional development activities. Becomes thoroughly familiar with all pertinent state and national policies and comply with said policies. Complies with City wide and departmental policies, as well as state and federal laws. Ensures the positive promotion of the City. Is prompt and punctual in reporting for work, meetings, etc. Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge and proficient understanding of theory and structure. Skills in flexibility and creativity in adapting lessons and instructional approaches. Managerial skills to the degree the job is necessary. Ability to model positive behavior, integrity, and professionalism. Ability to develop and deliver engaging, age-appropriate instruction. Ability to demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and positive character. Ability to instruct and supervise groups of elementary-age students. Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
ART INSTRUCTORS
Knowledge of specific art media or enrichment subjects such as visual arts, graphic design, theater arts, or related disciplines.
ATHLETICS INSTRUCTORS
Working knowledge of specialized athletic disciplines including basketball, baseball, softball, football, soccer, volleyball, golf, track and field, wrestling, and strength & agility training.
MUSIC INSTRUCTORS
Comprehension of, and a detailed working knowledge of the particular specialized art medium (voice, dance, and/or several instruments).

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in related OR equivalent recent relevant full-time work experience (one year of full-time recent relevant work experience for every one year of college). Experience and education in specific related fields. Current and valid drivers license.
MUSIC INSTRUCTORS
Large-scale performance experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience developing lesson plans or structured educational programs. Previous instructional, teaching, or enrichment program experience with youth. Advanced education, certification, or formal training in the area of instruction.
MUSIC INSTRUCTORS
Choreographing/blocking for performances, music writing, composing, arranging, and/or leading choir rehearsals. Advanced education in specific art mediums and competence in instruction.

The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in indoor conditions and regularly works near video display. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Employee may be required to work in extreme outdoor environments.
