ELEMENTARY ARTS SPECIALIST THE POSITION
Under the direction of the Director of Instructional Technology as well as the direct supervision of a school site administrator, the Elementary Arts Specialist (EAS) will provide specialized standards-based arts education to TK-5th grade students in music, visual, dance, theater, or media arts. The Elementary Arts Specialist will contribute to a comprehensive arts experience by providing discipline-specific units for students in TK-5th grade, as well as supporting after school arts instruction as part of the District's Expanded Learning Opportunities Programs.

Director in Educational Support Services Principals at Assigned Sites
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
The duties listed are typical, but not exclusive: Non-Discipline Specific Teach lessons aligned to the California Content Standards in the Arts and the National Core Arts Standards based on assigned arts discipline. Maintain professional competence and lesson design through weekly collaborative meetings Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior for an orderly, productive learning environment. Monitor appropriate use and care of equipment, materials and facilities. Communicate with school staff on student progress and related performance criteria and schedules. Participate in various faculty and/or District committees and the sponsorship of student activities for the purpose of receiving and/or providing information. Assist with the planning and development of District-wide exhibits, performances and fairs, in the Visual/Performing Arts. Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the District and/or in self-selected professional growth activities. Serves as a resource for classroom teachers. Music Teach knowledge and skills in the field of music, which may include general, instrumental or choral music to elementary students. Provide instruction by which students develop aesthetic concepts and appreciations and the ability to make qualitative judgments about music. Set musical foundation in grades TK-5 and expose students to both choral and instrumental music. Visual Art Able to provide instruction to students with appropriate art media in standards-based, grade level skills that enable learners to communicate ideas, images, symbols, and feelings in visual forms. Employ an array of media for expression such as crayons, chalks, tempera, water colors, clay, tissue paper, yarn, pastels, charcoal, and digital media. Employ techniques and provide opportunities for learners to recognize, to identify and utilize qualities for learners in visual work such as line, color, shape, intensity, value, texture, composition, and contrast. Theater Create adaptable lesson plans based on student levels and ability. Emphasize skills like enunciation, diction, and dialect development using speech drills, improvisation, explanation, and other voice exercises Explain body language and expression, engaging students in character development and personality projection, and help each student develop a personal style Media Arts Begin the development of media arts-literate citizens, using a variety of arts designs and processes. Develop media arts lessons through the use of technology. Provide students with lessons in media arts which include: photography, video, film-making, and graphic design. Dance Ability to teach using various dance styles and methodologies appropriate for elementary-aged children. Develop a sequential dance curriculum and prepare lesson plans. Engage, encourage, and motivate students in a variety of dance styles.
QUALIFICATIONS AND DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS
Valid California Credential/Authorization based on assigned arts discipline: Visual Arts, Music, Dance, Theater, Media Arts. Authorization to work with English Language Learners (i.e. CLAD or BCLAD Certification or Authorization). Valid Driver's License Ability to collaborate with appropriate District and school-based administrators and programs.
Training and Experience:
Student teaching, internship, or full-time teaching experience.
Personal Qualities:
Appearance, grooming and personality, which establish a desirable example for students. Ability to meet District standards for physical and mental health.
